This Texas Transfer Pup Found His Perfect Family in the PNW
Since his adoption in October, this Texas transfer pup has been enjoying all of the wonderful things his PNW family has to offer. From rolling in the mud to stuffy cuddle time to visiting Santa, Becker is living his best life.

"Becker loves waking up with mom and dad, ready for the day's adventure," said his adopter "After breakfast, we spend lots of time playing with his big sister, Esmee, before coming in and having lots of cuddles with mom and dad! We love being lazy and watching tv, going on adventures to the dog park, and cuddling up at night getting all the snuggles!

"Becker's favorite things in the world are the car, belly rubs, and treats. Rub his belly, and he gets the biggest smile on his face I've ever seen!

"Becker has blossomed SO MUCH since we adopted him. He was shy and timid at first, but after a couple of months, he has turned into the best dog anyone could ask for. Having three legs doesn't stop this little wild one. He will do zoomies with his sister any chance he gets! Becker is so incredibly smart and catches onto everything extremely quickly. He loves anyone who comes near him, and nothing but wiggles and wags all the time. I'm glad he's able to call us home!"

Wishing you another day full of belly rubs and car rides. Happy Tails, Becker!

March is National Pet Vaccination Month
Give pets their best shot! Thanks to Petco Love, the month of March is now “National Pet Vaccination Month.” Vaccines are a crucial part of good pet health, and Petco Love is working with animal welfare nonprofits nationwide to promote the importance of pet vaccination. In communities where their animal welfare partners have the capacity, free vaccines and clinics will be available throughout March. As puppy and kitten season approaches, pet exposure to contagious and deadly diseases – parvovirus, distemper, and panleukopenia – increases but is preventable with a simple vaccine.

“Treatment for these deadly diseases can be prohibitively expensive for many pet parents,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love President. “By providing free vaccines to those in need, we can help these pets live a healthy life. Through this national effort and our other Petco Love Care initiatives, we continue our 22-year history of strategic investments and innovation to end unnecessary pet euthanasia.”

The Give Pets Their Best Shot initiative makes crucial pet vaccines accessible to pet parents who may be experiencing financial challenges and assures that cost is not a barrier to protecting pets from preventable diseases. Vaccines distributed through the Petco Love initiative will be the DAPPv Canine and HCP Feline vaccines. With Bissell Pet Foundation as an additional partner this month, Petco Love’s goal is to increase awareness and accelerate the distribution of vaccines.

Here at KHS, we’ve continued to feel the effects of limited staffing - however, Petco Love and Bissell Pet Foundation have supported vulnerable pets in Kitsap County by providing our shelter with vaccinations we’re able to use during low-cost services.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Petco Love and Bissell Pet Foundation for their continued support of our lifesaving efforts.
Adorable Adoptable
Meet Lady!
Meet Lady! She's a 4-year-old Lab/Basset Hound mix with a beautiful, smooth red coat. Lady has the cutest short stumpy legs and your typical Basset vocals! Lady is a playful gal and loves to bolt around outside and do zoomies. She is very friendly with her people and full of affection. This little mama enjoys all sorts of goodies and will happily gobble up and treats you toss her way. Because the temptation to chase smaller animals is too much to resist, Lady needs a home without any cats, chickens, or small animals. She is also in search of a home with kids ages 6 and up. If this special girl seems like the right fit for you, come by KHS and adopt her today!
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Jennifer Parker!
Jennifer Parker felt a calling to help others and make the world around her a better place and because of her love of dogs and desire to focus on making her community better, she chose to volunteer at Kitsap Humane Society. We are so lucky that she made that decision! Jennifer has only been with us for 7 months, but she has already dedicated 135 hours to enhancing the lives of the dogs at the shelter!

Jennifer is a regular face weekly to both our enrichment team and our dog walking team and is our newest Advanced Handler. When asked what her favorite things are about volunteering, she said “Other than the dogs? As cheesy as it may sound, the people are my favorite part. Everyone here is so kind and welcoming. I've volunteered at other places where we were made to feel like a burden on the staff. But here everyone is happy to answer a question or point me in the right direction, which is awesome.”
At home, Jennifer has 3 sweet boxer boys but here she loves the big dogs and is especially drawn to the pitties!

We are so grateful that Jennifer has joined our volunteer team, she is an absolute joy to be around and is so eager to learn and be involved in everything KHS has to offer in our canine world!
Staff Spotlight
Meet Jing Wastart!
Please give a round of a “paws” to Jing! Joining our team only two months ago, Jing is an Animal Care Technician, and she shares, “My responsibilities include monitoring our shelter pets’ diet daily to ensure they remain happy and healthy. I also maintain their living quarters to help keep them clean and warm.”

When asked about her first few weeks, she says, “All the staff have been wonderful at helping me get quickly integrated into the KHS family. I am especially grateful for the rest of the Animal Care Team for guiding me and helping me to be successful at KHS.”

“My favorite part is when I come into work and see a sign on a kennel that says, “I am adopted!” Nothing warms my heart more than seeing an animal find their home.” We couldn’t agree more, Jing!

Her manager shared, “While she’s only been here for a short time, she brings a positive energy to the team!”

Not only is Jing an amazing Animal Care Technician, but Jing has also been so wonderful to share her artistic talents with us. Jing regularly paints pictures of shelter pets and posts them for all volunteers and staff to enjoy.

“Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to work with animals. Unfortunately, growing up in China, becoming a veterinarian isn’t a great career path. Not many people own pets! Ultimately, I pursued my other passion and earned a 4-year degree in art and design from Fuzhou University.
"My favorite things to paint are animals, of course. I love to experiment with different brushes and strokes to try and capture not only the appearance of the animal but also their spirit. A painting can never replace a pet, but I hope my art can help bring back happy memories of best friends from today and those who have passed.”

Jing hasn’t yet adopted a pet from KHS, but she’s rescued and helped several animals in her life, including a turtle, a yellow canary, a pregnant Siamese cat, and one cat whom she was able to return to his lost owner! Today, she has an 11-year-old Australian Shepherd whom she loves dearly.

Welcome aboard, Jing! We’re so glad to have you on the team!

The Point Casino & Hotel
This month, we're spotlighting our furbulous friends at The Point Casino & Hotel! The Point Casino & Hotel, located in Kingston, generously chose Kitsap Humane Society as their charity partner for 2020. Due to the pandemic, they decided to extend their support for KHS through 2021 to help bolster additional support for animals in this time of need. Wow!

This incredible partnership brought in $63,223 for Kitsap Humane Society, which will go towards funding our new Veterinary Lifesaving Center -- a program our friends at The Point Casino & Hotel feel passionate about because it allows KHS to further serve low-income families in our community.

Thank you to The Point Casino & Hotel for their incredible generosity and support of Kitsap Humane Society!
Puppuccino Pal Spotlight
Urban City Brew Co.
It is our pleasure to introduce you to our March Puppuccino Pal Sponsor, Urban City Brew Co. Located off Silverdale Way, this family-owned coffee shop focuses on strong ties and good coffee! Urban City Brew Co. serves Ootopia Coffee Roasters and offers military discounts seven days a week!

“My husband and I purchased Urban City Brew Co. in 2017 after moving back to Kitsap from Southern California when we were pregnant with our son,” said Urban City Brew Co. owner Kaitlin Hubbell. “Much like our family… Urban City has grown SO MUCH since then. We moved the original building from its old location on Ridgetop to its forever home on Silverdale Way. Because of its new location, our customer base is primarily military. To show how grateful we are to our serving community members, we choose to offer a military discount of 10% off every day of the week. We are one of the only stands to do so and it's really the smallest gesture we can make to show our appreciation.”

“At Urban City, our biggest priority is to love our people well. Our team of baristas is made up of a team that has been with us from the start! While we always support where they are going in life, we are so thankful to have had the majority of our team for the long haul. Over 90% of our business is daily and weekly returning customers.

“Because of those steadfast relationships we have had steady growth even through the pandemic and we are so thankful to be able to give a dose of that success back to the community through organizations like KHS! We are so thankful for the work you do and would like to support an organization close to the hearts of our team. All of our baristas are pet owners and as a “thank you” to them, we’ve chosen to donate to KHS! Also… bad days are literally not possible when a cold, wet nose greets you for a puppuccino!”
