Our September meeting will be held in person on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at Cooper Hall at Grace Church, 65 MacMillan Ave. It will be full of important updates and opportunities to engage including:

Logan Babcock from our City’s Public Works Department will present the Climate Action Resiliency Plan (CARP). She’ll share city strategies, priorities, and goals—and inspire us with ways we can all make a positive difference.

Councilmember Alex Mangone, representing District 7, will provide the latest on city happenings and initiatives.

Ventura Police Commander Edward Caliento will deliver the police report. This is a chance to learn what’s been happening in our area, and an opportunity to ask your questions directly.

The Arc of Ventura County, a nonprofit serving our community for over 70 years, will highlight its compassionate work supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Learn how their programs foster independent living and full inclusion.
In other news, the MVCC board over the summer held a retreat to set new goals for the year ahead. We’re also working on an updated mission statement that reflects our purpose. As a reminder, our bylaws outline our primary objectives:

To encourage residents to identify and understand Midtown Ventura’s challenges, needs, and expectations—and to either recommend or initiate the development and implementation of programs which respond to them.
- To facilitate communication between residents of the community and government agencies.
We’ll share more about these efforts in upcoming meetings, but in the meantime, we encourage you to get involved. Your voice truly matters!
Speaking of having a voice, Main Street Moves (MSM) is currently before the City Council, which will decide whether to keep downtown Main Street closed to cars. You can share your opinion by emailing council@cityofventura.ca.gov and copying cityclerk@cityoventura.ca.gov, preferably by noon on Monday, Sept. 15, or by making a public comment at the City Council meeting on Tuesday Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. It will be held at 57 Day Road.
After much discussion, the MVCC Board of Directors voted 6-4 in favor of supporting Main Street Moves, keeping Main Street a pedestrian-friendly, car-free zone.
