July 2022
From the Director

Dear Friends of ABM,

As the summer gets into full swing and the weather gets better, I thought about the summer potlucks we used to have. I miss seeing all of you and want to bring it back. Our new home at John Knox has allowed us to have the social hall on August 24th from 4pm-6pm. We would love to share a meal with all of you and catch up. We also want to invite the people of John Knox to the potluck so they can meet us and learn more about our ministry.

As life is returning to normal, I would like to visit different churches and share the story of AUDIOBOOK Ministries and how we serve the visually impaired and disabled. If you think that we could serve people at your church, please let me know.

Lastly, I want to invite you all to pray about being a board member. Here is a list of a few experts that we are looking for: financial planners, lawyers, fundraisers, CPAs, and marketing. If you have this expertise and you think that you do not have time to be on the board, we would still love to hear from you. Many hands make light work.

Yours in Christ,

Laurie van der Roest

Connie Hemmer
"Somewhere back in the late 90s, I retired from The Weyerhaeuser Company. I knew I was done with the 8-5 thing, but also knew I needed to have something to focus on. In conversations with a coworker she asked if I'd ever thought about recording books, and she told me about Tape Ministries NW, now AUDIOBOOK Ministries. I love to read and had been reading Scripture during church services, so was familiar with the concept.

I connected with TMN and began recording and volunteering in the office with Shirley Farris. Once we moved from the Seattle area, a nephew built a portable sound booth for me, which is where I hang out and record. I love bringing Christian and inspirational books to disabled listeners and hope to continue for a long while!

My husband of 51 years, our two cats, and I live in McMinnville, Oregon."

Thank you, Connie, for your support and dedication over the last couple of decades. It has made a difference.
We need your help. We are looking for people experienced with financial planning, fundraising, and marketing; a lawyer would also be helpful. If you only have a few hours or tons of time, we need you at AUDIOBOOK Ministries to help us grow and serve. Email me at lvanderroest@audiobookministries.org
or call the office at 206-243-7377.

How You Can Help Us?
Matching Gifts: Your gift can be doubled, or even tripled if you or your spouse work for a company with a matching gift program. All you need to do is ask your human resources office for information.
Tribute Gifts: What better way to honor someone special than to make a donation to AUDIOBOOK Ministries? This works for celebrating a special birthday or other milestones as well as a memorial. We list these donations in our newsletter every quarter.

Bequests: Have you thought about where you would like to leave your legacy? A charitable bequest can be tailored to a variety of circumstances, and it provides an unlimited deduction for estate tax purposes. In a last will and testament, you may stipulate a specific cash donation to AUDIOBOOK Ministries, or state a percentage of your gross assets. We also accept stock donations; just contact our office for the correct procedure and forms. As always, we thank you!
