March is Fraud Prevention Month | |
March is Fraud Prevention Month. The theme this year is, “Tricks of the trade: What’s in a fraudster’s toolbox?”, to help Canadians easily identify scams and fraud so they can protect themselves and others. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) reports a staggering $530 million in victim losses due to fraud and scams. Unfortunately, the CAFC estimates that only 5 to 10 per cent of people report fraud.
During this month, EAPO encourages seniors, caregivers, and those working with older
adults to learn about the latest frauds and scams targeting seniors and how individuals can play a role to help stop fraudsters. The Government of Canada has many resources available to help educate and prevent people from falling for common scams, such as The Little Black Book of Scams. View our recent Fraud Prevention webinar, hosted in collaboration with CNPEA and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to become knowledgeable of current frauds and scams and the tactics fraudsters are using to help protect your information and assets.
If you suspect a fraud, report it to The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. This March, join the conversation using #FPM2023 to find and share information to Recognize, Reject and Report fraud.
