by our government do influence our economic vitality.

The Glendale Chamber PAC will work to educate individuals about
candidates who recognize the power and impact they have on local businesses and communities, so that voters can make an informed decision.
JAMIE ALDAMA - OCOTILLO DISTRICT

My wife of over 30 years and I raised three children, and now get to spoil five grandchildren, all right here in Glendale! I care deeply about our community, and I am excited about our progress in making our City even better.

I am proud and committed to being your representative for our community. There is more work to be done on your behalf, and I am asking for your continued support."

LAUREN TOLMACHOFF - VICE MAYOR, CHOLLA DISTRICT

"Four years ago, I made a commitment to restore fiscal stability to Glendale. Today, the city has an incredible amount of positive momentum and much progress has been made in delivering on that promise, however there is more work to be done. I am committed to creating a culture of facilitation, not regulation at city hall by cutting red tape, removing obstacles and increasing efficiency for businesses that want to open or expand in Glendale.

It is an honor and privilege to serve on the Glendale City Council. I will continue to make tough, fiscally responsible decisions as your voice at city hall, and ask for your continued support."

I am very proud of the great progress our City Council has accomplished over the last four years, and I am equally proud to have both the Glendale Chamber of Commerce and the Glendale Star endorse my re-election.

ADOT Officers Trained to Identify,
Respond to Opioid Overdoses
"While working at ports of entry to ensure that commercial vehicles have the proper permits and can operate safely on state highways, Arizona Department of Transportation officers have to be ready for situations in which they’re called upon to help save a life.

That’s why nearly 100 officers, part of ADOT’s Enforcement and Compliance Division, have been trained so far to identify opioid overdoses and administer a drug to reverse the effects.

“One of the worst feelings as a law enforcement officer is being unable to help someone in an emergency situation,” said Sergeant Sean Dalley with the Enforcement and Compliance Division. “Having the right tools and knowing how to use them is a way to ensure we are always in a position to act fast when called upon.”

Family Health and Fitness Day Burpee Challenge
On Saturday, September 15, 2018, AZOPT and CrossFit Fury will host our 6 th Annual Family Health and Fitness Day. On this day, families of all ages and fitness levels are invited to participate in various fitness and sporting events that bring together the entire family to promote physical activity. Healthcare professionals, local health businesses, and other community partners also join in to provide knowledge to attendees...

This year, we are seeking local businesses, like you, to pledge an amount between $.25 and $1.00 for every burpee completed in less than 30 seconds by a child who attends (18 and under). If you are unfamiliar with a burpee, it is a grueling cardiovascular movement that not only tests strength and endurance, but also will and determination. We anticipate approximately 200 children, with the average child completing 6 burpees.

Family Health and Fitness Day has partnered with the Arizona Coyotes Foundation to donate 100% of the pledges.

Free Workshop: How to Be Proactive About
Your Child's College Plan
One of my favorite quotes is from Ben Franklin, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

With that being said, I am excited to announce I have accepted a partnership with the top College Planning firm in the country.

Most of the families I meet with don’t understand, or even consider, that Colleges and Universities are essentially “big business.” Their primary focus is to raise and earn revenue for their own coffers.

Did you know that over the past 30 years the average cost of tuition has increased over 214%? This number is a lot higher than the increase of inflation over that same time period. Even in the past 10 years, the Bureau of Labor and Statistics shows that college tuition has increased over 63% and college textbooks have increased over 88% (see attached graph).

In 1957, the average cost of tuition for a top private school was around $800, representing about 16% of a family’s annual income during that time. In 2010, the average cost of tuition for the same private school was around $37,000, representing about 80% of a family’s annual income during that time.

Needless to say, more and more families are looking for private loans to help pay for the increased cost of tuition and textbooks.

Currently, the average student has over $34,000 in student loan debt which equates to over $1.4 trillion in national student debt. This is 1/3 of the U.S. Federal annual budget! What is most alarming is that roughly 1/3 of all students with debt do not even graduate. This makes it nearly impossible for them to ever pay off their past student debts.

As I mentioned before, I have partnered with the top college planning firm in the country to prevent this dilemma from possibly happening to your family. The mission of our firm is to make college affordable but more importantly to get your son or daughter into one of the top three schools of their choice.

Please watch the videos below to see a quick overview of our process:

If you’re interested in taking a proactive approach to your child’s college plan, please join Scott for an informative workshop on Thursday September 13 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm (program begins promptly at 1:15) at the BNC National Bank Conference room at the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. We will be available for questions following the presentation. Food and beverages will be provided.

Please RSVP at 602-824-2299. See you there!
