December 15, 2021

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

A few years back the Village Council made a decision not to hold any zoning hearings during the month of December. The logic behind that decision was fairly obvious. It's the most wonderful time of the year and people are busy preparing for the holidays, celebrating with friends and family, attending work and school events, and not focused on Village business.

On December 1st, the Village learned that the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works had scheduled a VIRTUAL public meeting to discuss the SW 87th Avenue Bridge over the C-100 Canal project. This meeting is taking place while we are still in a legal process outlined in Florida Statute. Village Attorney Dellagloria and outside Counsel Gerry Greenberg have been trying for weeks to schedule a Joint Meeting of the Commission and Council, yet there was no problem finding a date, during a busy holiday month, when many will not be paying attention to important Village matters to schedule a meeting to discuss bridge design and garner input. (Note: On Monday, the County/TPO Attorneys requested that the joint meetings be held on January 20th. More on that soon!)

According to the meeting notice for tonight's meeting, "the project consists of the Design and Construction of a new bridge that will provide vehicle travel lanes, dedicated bike lanes with physical raised separation from vehicle traffic, curb & gutter and sidewalk in both directions, northbound and southbound. The project scope includes a new roadway, storm water drainage system, signing and pavement markings, bridge lighting, fencing and landscaping along the project." The virtual meeting will be held tonight, Wednesday, December 15th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. I have requested to speak at the meeting and will be participating and listening to the presentation and our residents. I hope you will find time in your hectic schedules to attend. You must register to participate. Click here for more information on how you can register and participate.

As we countdown to Christmas, Palmetto Bay continues to get into holiday spirit with local performances of the Nutcracker at Southwood Middle School, holiday gatherings of the Palmetto Bay Garden Club and Deering Estate's Holiday strolls. This weekend we are looking forward to the Annual Christmas Parade and arrival of Santa in Mangowood.
