Together We Can Make Palmetto Bay An Even Better Place To Live, Work, Learn And Play!

October 25, 2021

Hey there Palmetto Bay! Hope you had an amazing weekend and enjoyed some time in spite of the monsoon! We had a few areas in the Village that were soggier than usual. Thanks to those that reached out, your concerns have been sent to the Manager. You can report also clogged drains real time near your property on our Street by Street app. Visit our website at www.palmettobay-fl.gov to scan the QR code and download the app. Drains throughout the Village have been cleaned. If the flooding persists, please report it on the Street by Street app.

Last Monday we had a marathon Zoning Hearing that began at 5 pm. If you missed it you can watch the re-run by clicking here. At 10:30 pm, I requested a motion to hear from the residents on Item 5, Palmetto Bay Village Center 480 application, and then continue the item until the November 15th meeting. It is important that big items like these be conducted when residents can participate and watch. As my mom use to say, nothing good happens after midnight! I am pretty sure she would agree that that includes making important decisions for our community. We were able to enter to the record all of the names and/or comments of those that called or emailed and comments from those that were present either in person or virtually or sent by form. I will make sure to keep you in the loop for the next meeting.

We also heard and voted unanimously on changes to our B-1 and B-2 Zoning. Click here for a map of these zoning areas (see the red areas). So, what's the ventanita fix? The Miami Herald knows. They printed an article regarding the changes this past weekend. While the headline choice was disappointing, I am appreciative to Miami Herald for the coverage of the truth and pulling back the curtain to expose the source behind the developer PAC, that continues to spread misinformation in our community, and who the source of their information is. Since the online article is for subscriber's only, I have uploaded the article here for you to read. Definitely a quick and good read.

Registration closes today for the First Annual Mayor's Citizens Academy! The once a month, ten class interactive program will give residents and business owners the opportunity to learn about the Village's governmental process. The first class is this Wednesday, October 27th in person. All other classes will be virtual. The program is designed to familiarize residents with government services, functions, and activities while enhancing your ability to communicate effectively with Village staff members. Click here for the registration form or additional information and/or inquiries, please contact Missy Arocha, Village Clerk at (305) 259-1234, or via email to: clerk@palmettobay-fl.gov.

People often ask me how I stay focused and avoid the political drama that is sometimes stirred up unnecessarily in our beautiful Village. For me, that is always an easy response, I stay grounded in good things. And in the Village of Palmetto Bay, that is easy to do because there are so many good things to anchor and ground me here! As we enter the holiday season (yes can you believe it is almost November??), there are many things to look forward to. Our Halloween Drive through, First Responder Appreciation Luncheon, Christmas and Chanukah events, and our Annual State of the Village. It has been another year filled with the unexpected, but we have accomplished so much! The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Ludovici Park. Enjoy an evening of celebrating our Village's talent, while enjoying great company among friends and neighbors as we launch our year-long celebration of the Village's 20th birthday! In an abundance of caution, this is a limited-capacity event and RSVP is required.

This past weekend, we welcomed new business Box IQ Fitness and Knowledge to the Village of Palmetto Bay. Special thanks to Elijah and Erik (owner of another great local business, Dapples) for inviting the Village and our local Palmetto Bay Business Association to the event. Mayor Joe Corradino was also in the house and in the ring! We had fun with some playful sparring and a TKO! Check out the photos and video here. #PalmettoBaysGotTalent

As always, I am here to answer questions or lend a helping hand. I can also be reached at kcunningham@palmettobay-fl.gov or at 305-799-0695.  Together we are making Palmetto Bay a better place to live, work, learn, and play.

Warm regards,
Business Lunch and Learn- We are open for Business!

We are definitely doing something right! During the height of the pandemic, almost 100 new businesses opened in the Village! While many cities are trying to recruit businesses from other places, the Village is working to support and provide resources to our local Mom and Pop businesses because they are the backbone of local economic development.

Our first ever business lunch and learn served up many great resources to help small businesses access capital to grow their roots in our community. This is a really great example of what happens when you get the right people together. Thank you to the Village Manager, PBBA, Chamber South, FFC and TDBank for taking this idea to the next level. You are local business champions! Click here to see photos.

Street By Street App is here!

Palmetto Bay, we have some exciting news!

We've officially launched our Street By Street app. This is our latest innovative tool which will assist residents on requesting services, receiving notifications and alerts.

By downloading the Palmetto Bay Street By Street app, you will be able to view upcoming events, news, Village's official twitter page, Village's official Facebook page, IBUS tracker and scheduling an appointment. Please watch this short tutorial video below to learn how to download and use the app.
This year, our theme is "20 Years of Palmetto Bay Talent" as we launch our celebration leading up to the Village's 20th Anniversary on September 10, 2022. As such, we want to include our residents in the event's feature video. Click the link below to send us your stories, memories and photos about your history and life in Palmetto Bay.

Please spread the word and help us get as many residents as possible! Click here to submit your stories and pictures online. Please provide your information by Monday, November 1, 2021.
