Hey there, Palmetto Bay!
It's hard to believe that summer is almost over and tomorrow our teachers and administrators will be opening their doors for the 2022-23 school year. Today, I had the pleasure of visiting all of our schools to drop off backpacks with supplies and greet the administrators and staff. It won't surprise you to learn that every one is excited to open their doors to our children and their parents.
The first days of school are exciting and will be filled with new supplies, sharpened pencils, and yes... regular school year traffic patterns. Please remember while traveling around the village before and after school that school speed zones will be back in effect. Give yourself extra time when heading out the door this week, as the summer traffic vacation will be over and traffic will likely be hectic as parents and students get acclimated to drop-off and pick-up schedules.
In our discussions today with the new Region Superintendent, Dr. Villalobos, the school district wants to encourage parents to take advantage of the drop-off and pick-up locations at each school rather than parking and walking the kids to the front of the building, which can be dangerous given the limited parking and the increased traffic around the schools. Police and school staff will be present to assist in keeping vehicles moving safely. Parents who are not familiar with the drop-off and pick-up procedures at their child's school are encouraged to check out your schools webpages to find out the details.
Our schools are the cornerstone of our community. I know that as we navigate this school year, we will need to be flexible and patient. As always, I am here to answer questions or lend a helping hand. I can also be reached at [email protected] or 305-799-0695. Together we are making Palmetto Bay a better place to live, work, LEARN, and play.
Warm regards,
