Social Emotional Learning
Social - emotional learning  (SEL) as defined by experts is "the process in which both adults and children develop the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success". Research has shown that people with strong  social - emotional  skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. It is also documented that SEL is best accomplished through effective classroom classroom instruction, student engagement in positive activities in and out of the classroom and broad parent and community involvement in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.

S ince social and emotional skills are so critical to success both in and out of the classroom, the Rockaway Borough Schools have chosen the integration of SEL learning and programming as one of our district goals for the 2019-20 school year. As a result, staff will be receiving continuous and on-going training and professional development on how to best integrated those skills within our current curriculum.
