All the Hearts You Eat

Hailey Piper

"Piper cements her place in the queer horror canon.”

—Publishers Weekly

"...Hailey Piper grips us in this gorgeous, yet tragic death poem and life poem, in which we’re struck with the utter heartbreak of how when we are starved of friendship, love, and care we are turned into a monster. As beautiful as the sea and as unsettling as its destructive waves.”

Philanthropy Spotlight:

Barriers Can't Stop Us

The American Place (TAP) program “Barriers Can’t Stop Us” was highlighted at the Aurora Luminary Event. This program, funded by Aurora, focuses on the college retention of female graduates of HPL's English Learner Success program, all of whom immigrated to the United States during high school and are the first in their families to attend college in the United States.

"It was a joy to see our students shining in the spotlight and to learn more about Aurora's great work supporting women and girls in the Hartford area," said Edna Levy, ESL Program Manager for Immigrant and Refugee Youth, at TAP.

The 2024 Luminary Celebration included women and girls who benefitted from Aurora's work and celebrated the luminaries who helped them thrive.

From the left are TAP students Juliana Yanarico, Belen Aparicio, and Djaly Venero.

“How ironic it was, that when we were apart, all I wished for was to be with him. Yet as soon as we were reunited, all we did was tell each other to leave.”
