Kentucky braces for major winter storm: NWS issues weekend weather alert

The National Weather Service offices that serve Kentucky have called for a significant and impactful winter storm this weekend.


A substantial wintry mix is expected Sunday morning through midday Monday. Significant accumulations of ice and snow will be possible across a majority of the Commonwealth, especially in North Central Kentucky.

2025 General Assembly Regular Session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 7

The 2025 General Assembly will convene on Jan. 7 for four days before adjourning until Feb. 4. The deadline for introducing new Senate bills is Tuesday, Feb. 18, followed by the deadline for new House bills on Wednesday, Feb. 19.


As a "short session," the 2025 Regular Session is limited to 30 legislative days, compared to the 60-day "long session" held in even-numbered years.

Opioid Abatement Commission accepting grant applications

The Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission is accepting applications for 2025 grants from the state's portion of opioid settlement funds. The application period will close at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. Counties are eligible to apply.
