Gales Creek Camp
On the Road

The Don't Stop Believin' Tour
GCC is going on the road this summer! We want to be where our campers are, so we're loading up the bus with all-star counselors, medical staff, and lots of GCC swag to bring the fun to you. These sessions will be half-day sessions divided by age group.

July 30 - August 1: Portland/Vancouver Metro

August 7: Medford

August 8: Eugene
Registration opens May 1 at 10am

The fees per session are $25 per participant.

This materials fee covers the camper t-shirts, swag and snacks we're bringing with us. As always, scholarships are available because ALL kids with type 1 diabetes need camp. You can apply for a scholarship during the registration process. It's easy-peasy.

For our campers in Eastern Oregon and beyond: we miss you, too! The Tour schedule is based on where all our campers are from and the responses to the survey we sent out. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough campers in your area for us to drive the bus that way. But we want to see you! So if you live more than 2 hours from any of our Tour stops, all your fees are waived if you can make it to any of the programs. If you still can't make it, click here and let us know and we'll send you a t-shirt kit anyway.

Note to those with a credit from 2020: you can log in to the registration system and see your credit. If you would like more information about a refund or making a donation, click here.

Other special programs for 2021
July 31: Family Camp
We know our littlest, newest campers are eager to get a peek at their new "home away from home," so this one's just for you. This afternoon camp is for families whose T1D is currently in kindergarten or 1st grade. Parents and siblings welcome.

August 14-15: High School Senior Weekend
The campers who were perhaps the most affected by these two summers without camp are our seniors. If 2020 or 2021 was supposed to be your last year at camp, we got you. We're planning an overnight camp for only those who are currently in the 11th or 12th grade (even if you've never been to GCC before).

As you know well, things can change, but we're committed and we're laying the groundwork for this special weekend. Because there are only so many who qualify for this camp, we can keep the numbers very low, space campers appropriately, and enforce COVID-safe protocols throughout their time at camp. Our staff will be vaccinated.
We know our campers and families need to connect with each other and GCC this year. We're excited to make the most of this opportunity.
Looking for CITs for 2021
Are you (or your camper) graduating high school in 2021? If so, we'd like to talk to you about working at camp.

Counselors in Training (CITs) are an important part of the Gales Creek Camp employment pipeline. Former campers make some of the best counselors (and kitchen staff and even nurses). The CIT program is primarily for former campers who can't be a camper anymore, but they can't be a counselor yet either. However, anyone meeting the CIT requirements is eligible to apply.

Short commercial from our April session on siblings. Sometimes the sessions feel like a presentation, sometimes an interview, sometimes a panel, but always a conversation.
The next "Hope-mongering" parent support session is coming up!

This time we welcome science celebrity Dr. Jill Wessberg-Benchell! Not only is she well known in the T1D research and support community, but she is also the author of the diabetes summer camp study GCC has relied on for years to show that diabetes camps truly change lives.

She'll join us from Chicago to take YOUR questions! This is going to be an epic Hope-Mongering session. You can add your questions at registration or ask them yourself during the session.

Hope-mongering is a T1D parent and caregiver support program of Gales Creek Camp. We recruit an array of key voices from the T1D community: parents, young adults who grew up with T1D, health coaches, dietitians, T1D doctors and nurses, and of course the GCC summer camp crew.

It's a magic formula for conversation on raising a young person with T1D. We'd love for you to join us and add your voice, or just sit back and listen. Zero pressure.

The next session is May 20 at 7pm. Of course this is a virtual event, and you can join us online or via phone.
Camp Cleanup Day

July 10, 2021
9am-1pm

The annual event is BACK! We'll spruce up camp then serve lunch. This year we'll keep most jobs outside and/or make sure you stay in your "pod" so we can keep up the fight against the coronavirus. To sign up, click here.
