Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints City of Kissimmee Economic Development Director Belinda Kirkegard to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority 
We couldn’t be prouder of our city’s Economic Development Director Belinda Ortiz Kirkegard for being appointed to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board of Directors by Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday. Kirkegard completes a seven-member board that controls both the state’s largest commercial airport, Orlando International Airport, and Orlando Executive Airport, the general aviation airport near downtown Orlando. Kirkegard has been the city’s economic development director since 2009 when she was brought on to create the city’s department. She has built a strong reputation throughout the state and is a well-known player in Florida’s economic development circles. In 2019, she was named the Orlando Business Journal “Women Who Mean Business” Executive of the Year and has been recognized by Florida Trend for the last three years in their “People to Know” in Florida. Kirkegard is active civically and currently serving on AdventHealth's Central Florida Division board as well as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando, and the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida. Kirkegard earned her bachelor’s degree in public administration and political science from the University of Central Florida, her Master of Public Administration from Troy State University, and is a nationally certified economic development finance professional. Warbirds Adventures Hangar Purchased by the City of Kissimmee
The City of Kissimmee has purchased the hangar formerly owned by long-time tenant Warbird Adventures. After 24 years, Warbird Adventures is leaving Kissimmee Gateway Airport and heading to South Carolina. 
 
"Kissimmee Gateway Airport has been our partner for well over two decades," said Thom Richard, president, and chief pilot at Warbird Adventures. "We have always wanted our own grass strip where we can have an aerobatic box for teaching and eventually start hosting our own airshows, hence the move to South Carolina. We will miss Kissimmee dearly. It is one of the best places in the U.S. to locate a business and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We’ll only be 400 miles north however, so we hope our Florida friends come visit us at our new American Dream SkyRanch!"

The city is working with another company that will occupy the hangar in the coming months. An announcement about the new company will be forthcoming in the fall of 2021.
