Free, Fun Events Featured At Federation Conference
A series of free, family friendly events in downtown Montgomery will help celebrate the centennial of the state’s largest farm organization Aug. 7 at the Family Farm Fun Day.

Hundreds of Alabama Farmers Federation members will attend the organization’s Farm & Land Expo Aug. 5-7, which offers tours and workshops for farmers. The special family day events Aug. 7 are designed to encourage everyone to join the festivities.

Activities include a petting zoo, farmers market, artisan market, live music by River Dan, antique tractor show, tractor-drawn hayride, grain bin farm safety demonstration, face painting and food trucks.

After the Family Farm Fun Day, head into the Farm & Land Expo Trade Show from 1-5 p.m. in the Montgomery Convention Center (Hall C). Displays feature farm equipment, trucks, ag lenders and other exhibits of interest to farmers, landowners and rural residents.
Survey Seeks To Update Ag Law & You Handbook
The Alabama Farmers Federation is conducting a survey of its membership through July 15 to collect data to update the organization’s Ag Law & You Handbook. 

The handbook is a helpful online guide for farmers and Federation members to stay aware of current laws and regulations relating to agriculture.
Deadline Extended For Hurricane Michael Program
The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) has extended the application deadline for the Alabama Agriculture Relief Program (AARP) to July 26.

AARP provides U.S. Department of Agriculture relief funds to farmers who suffered losses due to Hurricane Michael.

Eligible counties include Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Escambia, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Montgomery, Pike and Russell.

Big Turnout For Turfgrass Field Day
Turf producers, golf course superintendents and lawn care company representatives from across the Southeast gathered in Auburn at the Auburn University Turf Unit to attend the Alabama Turfgrass Association field day July 7.

Attendees saw demonstrations on herbicide efficacy, weed management strategies and production techniques.
