Join Maggie for a Winter Barrel Tasting
Join Maggie for the Loudoun Wineries Association (LWA) Winter Barrel Tasting Saturday, Feb. 2. Maggie will taste her much-anticipated 2017 Tannat/Viognier - believed to be the only big red wine like it in Virginia - and other equally worthy wines, at the event. The wine was inspired by a winter 2017 trip Maggie and Mark took to Uruguay.
Loudoun County winemakers are opening up their cellars and tasting wine directly from the barrel for the event.
Our wine industry colleagues, also participating in the event, include:

Ticket prices include barrel samples at all participating wineries. This does not cover current releases at winery tasting bars.

When life gives you lemons, make Ros é!
Our viticulturist and grape grower Mark Malick says winter vineyard pruning is in full swing at the Wine Cave.
It takes almost four months to hand prune our 30,000 vines. All the work is painstakingly done, vine by vine, on 30 acres of our vineyards.
Looking back on the 2018 growing season, Mark says he is glad it is behind us.
"We normally get about 38 inches of rain annually. But our 2018 rainfall was about 66 inches - nearly twice the annual amount!"
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But, in our case, when life gives you a boatload of rain, make r osé.
Speaking of rosé, save the date for the Loudoun Wineries Association Rosé Weekend April 27-28 .
Maggie will debut her 2018 Rosé, a Cabernet Sauvignon/Mourvèdre blend similar to her 2017 Rosé, which tied for best in state. Rosé varieties are the fastest growing segment of all wines.
