A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT / CEO
|
December 2017
Beth L. Mitchell, President & CEO
Welcome to the December newsletter!
The Chamber introduced its Officers and Board of Directors for 2017/2018 at our November Luncheon, and held an abbreviated annual awards ceremony. Our incoming Chair is Dawn Biehl, of the Guardian Group of Sebastian, serving second term, Vice Chair will be Michelle Napier, Napier and Rollin, LLC and Bob Morgan, Marine Bank and Trust will serve as the Treasurer. Kim Ellis will continue to serve as the past chair. Elected board member also include Theresa Tolle, Capt. Christy Lenz, Joe Stout, Anna V. Tillery and Sue Skirvin. Our appointed directors, who will serve one year terms are Robin Raiff, Dana Ryder, Ben Maffit, and Nancy Flickinger. We look forward to the good work and valuable input from the Board as we all work towards fulfilling the Chamber mission! The Awards Ceremony held several surprises for our businesses. The list of honorees reflects businesses and people who contribute towards the successes in the Sebastian River Area. Please take a look at it further in this newsletter.
Also included is a one page snapshot of Chamber activities over the last fiscal year. Chamber by the Numbers shows you all of the activities, all of the participants, all of the interaction on social media, number of visitors and how many people that were "touched" in some way by the Chamber during the year. It's just part of the Chamber story.
It is the season for gratitude and celebration. To kick off the celebration we are holding our annual Light Up Night on December 1 this year. That's a Friday, and the only way to start Friday off is with breakfast at Kashi. It's indescribably delicious in a very peaceful setting and one breakfast you should not miss! Light Up Night has been around for many years, created by one of our Chamber members and past president, Debbi Vickers. We average thirty five businesses each year, with thousands of residents and visitors driving around to enjoy all of the holiday cheer. We are thankful to the businesses who decorate, bake and host all of the attendees. The next evening is a very special time to be a child in Sebastian, when the Annual Christmas parade delivers Santa to the park. Many groups and individuals in our community organize this event to insure that Sebastian children believe in the wonders of the holiday!
We are thankful for all of the blessings we have received over the year, and the people and businesses who give so much to our community. We hope that all of you enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday, with cool temperatures to make it feel like fall, and humongous turkey dinners and that your favorite football teams win all their games! We hope to see you at our Volunteer Luncheon at Marsh Landing in December.
Have a prosperous month!
|
It's right around the corner.
Celebrate your community with the small businesses that make it special.

Kevin Rollin |
Napier & Rollin, PLLC is a law firm founded with the purpose of applying the highest standards of integrity and professionalism to the practice of law. Attorneys Michelle D. Napier and Kevin M. Rollin primarily appear in Florida State Court for divorce, family law, and civil litigation matters in Indian River, Brevard, and St. Lucie counties.
While Kevin and Michelle are both adept at all aspects of divorce, family law, and general civil litigation, each of them have unique areas of focus. For example, Michelle has enjoyed success representing many local small businesses. She has proven over and over to be an effective advocate and negotiator for business clients. Kevin serves as the firm's appellate attorney and also has a wealth of experience dealing with complex child-related litigation. There are few attorneys in this area of Florida, such as Kevin, with the level of understanding and experience necessary to deal with even the most complicated family cases both at trial and on appeal.
|
Being primarily a litigation firm, Napier & Rollin's main office is located less than one mile east of the Indian River County Courthouse on State Road 60 in Vero Beach, Florida. The firm has deep roots in the Sebastian community and also maintains an office in the Sebastian Center just north of Wendy's on U.S. 1.
Napier & Rollin's mantra is "You can't change the way the wind blows, but you can adjust your sails." There is nothing in life that can be controlled except the choices one makes. Litigation is no different. A client might have had little control over the circumstances which led to the necessity of an attorney, but individual choices will dramatically impact the direction and ultimate destination. This is why Michelle and Kevin empower their clients to make well informed decisions with purpose and direction.

TOURISM TIDBITS

Tourism Tidbits
By Nicole Capp Holbrook
At our November luncheon, we presented Will Collins with the 2017 Tourism Award. We've had a very busy year at the Chamber, and our Tourism Partners are essential to our success! In 2013, Will was appointed President (and Director of Good Times) of Capt Hiram's Resort. Having grown up with Capt Hiram's, Will has a true understanding of the impact of tourism to our area as well as a genuine appreciation for the areas natural and recreational resources. Will is passionate about promoting the Sebastian River Area while working to preserve and protect it. Here are just a few things we would like to recognize Will for:
- Each November, Capt Hiram's hosts a River Challenge Sprint Triathlon raising awareness to the perils that face the Indian River Lagoon and to showcase the beautiful City of Sebastian (the 5th annual event is this Sunday for anyone interested in participating).
- Capt Hiram's hosts the Annual Sebastian Lionfish Festival, as well as several other inshore and offshore fishing tournaments such as the Bluewater Open.
- Will was instrumental in collaborating with the Chamber to bring the VISIT FLORIDA Certified Travel Information Center Conference to Sebastian last month.
- After Hurricane Irma, Will provided free rooms for special needs residents that weren't able to return home due to loss of power, after the shelters close.
- Since 2015, Will has served as a member on the Indian River County Tourism Development Council, representing North County.
- In addition to being a landmark and great vacation spot along Sebastian's Riverfront, Capt Hiram's is also very involved in the community supporting and hosting several organizations such as the St. Baldrick's Foundation, Women in Business, Paddle in Pink, Military Appreciation Month, and so much more!
We ask a lot of our tourism partners and Will never says no! His generosity towards helping promote the area is unparalleled. We would like to thank Will & Capt Hiram's for working with us so much this past year to promote the Sebastian River Area as the wonderful destination that it is.
