Getting Dusty
2018 will be the year of getting dusty for Sunlight Church. In Jewish culture a disciple would follow a teacher so closely, watching and listening so intently, that they would literally get dusty from the dirt the Rabbi kicked up as he walked on the dirt roads. We think of "learning" as sitting in a classroom. For Jewish culture it meant never leaving the side of the Rabbi. A student, or disciple, went everywhere his teacher went. They lived in the same home, traveled together, ate together and in this way the disciples immersed themselves in the life of the Rabbi. They learned more than principles and ideas from the teacher, they learned how to live.

This year, we will dedicate ourselves to following Jesus in various ways.  It includes Alpha which will teach the foundations of what it means to follow Jesus. We will also "get dusty" through the weekend messages beginning with a series called CHANGED. This series will look at the lives of four individuals who were profoundly transformed by their encounter with Jesus.  This week we will look at a Pharisee named Nicodemus. But, really getting dusty will take more than Alpha and more than weekend messages. It will mean entering into discipling relationships with people. It will mean spending time reading God's Word and praying. It will mean getting out into the community, serving others and celebrating God's goodness over tables of feasting.

I hope you will invest yourself this year in "getting dusty".  There is no limit to the  depth of knowledge and insight we can gain by following Jesus. The more we learn and understand about who our Master is the more we begin to live as He lived.  See you Sunday! -Kris

Alpha begins January 14, 5 pm.  Mark your calendar and plan to join us.  We will begin with a meal together then watch our first Alpha video in the series.
