Get Ready for Visitors This Holiday Season
Reports from all the October events in the district are that attendance was up for most of them. Edom Art Festival topped the list with around 8,000 visitors. Now, it's time to get more visitors out to enjoy the end-of-year holiday season in the Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District (VZACD).

Here are some suggestions for keeping in touch and helping each other provide the best experience for visitors and most coordinated promotional efforts.

• Note your events on the VZACD Explore Guide sponsored by County Line Magazine. Check HERE to see if yours is there already and if not simply click on SUBMIT YOUR EVENT to add. Please only add tourism-worthy events. This is not for local baseball games or story time. It's purpose is to bring tourism to the area and improve our economy. We direct a lot of traffic to this site and use the events listed here in our weekly Fun Guide.

• LIKE Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District on Facebook and MESSAGE us anytime you want to add something so the growing list of followers can stay up to date on what's going on. Be sure to invite your friends to follow this page and share with others.

• Show up for the Meet & Greet from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, at Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Van. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your business neighbors and share ideas for getting more tourism to the area. Find the sign up sheet if you'd like to host future meetings.
Thank you Samantha Owens and Mallory Whitehead for hosting our November Meet & Greet at your lovely Fairfield Inn.
"Tied Up" by Jayci Gibson, Van High School
The Young Artists Exhibition at Edom Art Festival was a big hit. A steady stream of students, parents, local community members, and people from all over Texas enjoyed seeing the talents of these kids from Van High School. Many thanks to teacher Karen Price for working with her students to submit. The next show is April 11, 2020, at Van Go Art Fair in Van City Park.

The mission of the Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District Foundation is to help create thriving communities in the southeast corner of Van Zandt County that we can all enjoy and keep fun and healthy for generations to come. We do this through two initiatives: economic development through tourism, and arts education for our children in Van ISD. The three towns of Edom, Van, and Ben Wheeler already share the school district -- pooling their fun things-to-do attracts many more tourists and that means more success for all in the district.

Membership in the Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District Foundation makes you a part of strategic efforts to improve our district. TOURISM
• Van City Manager Charles West reports that he's received final approvals to begin construction of McMillan Park off Main Street across from Van ISD. Interstate 20 property at FM 314 has two very interested buyers that will bring more opportunities for the district.

• Don't miss the next VZACD Meet & Greet from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at Fairfield Inn. All businesses interested in economic development through tourism in the district should have a representative there. Bring your business cards and get to know your commercial neighbors.

• Leadership Van Zandt will tour the VZ Arts District on November 14. They will be in Ben Wheeler at 10 a.m., Edom 10:45 and Van 11:30. Let's show these future leaders what we have to offer.

EDUCATION & KIDS PROJECTS
• Sannie Duran (above) is one of the students that exhibited her artwork at the VZACD Young Artists Exhibition at Edom Art Festival. All the students that stopped by to see their artwork on display were so pleased by how much the visitors enjoyed their work.

• We are needing a coordinator for the Van Go Arts Club. They will arrange for monthly or quarterly meetings and help plan events and activities for kids. They will work with volunteers at festivals and other events. Please call (903) 312-9556 or email info@VanZandtACD.com if interested.

• Join Facebook group Van Go Arts Club to keep up with topics relating to Van ISD communities, kids, and arts education.

• Attention Teachers & Van ISD staff -- November is a great time to invite musicians and artists in to your classrooms or assembly. We've negotiated with quite a few willing to volunteer their time. Get all the details in the VZACD 2019-2020 Arts Program Guide or online HERE.

• Door Controls USA is selecting artwork submitted by Van ISD students for their Christmas card that goes out to thousands around the world. We'll share the winning entry in the December newsletter.
SHOP SMALL SATURDAY

Small Business Saturday is November 30, the Saturday after Thanksgiving when more people go shopping more than any other day of the year. It's part of the Shop Small nationwide campaign to celebrate small businesses throughout the year to help communities thrive and stay vibrant.

Help spread the word that there's plenty of great finds in the Van Zandt Arts & Cultural District. Follow this LINK for a list of shops.

Don't miss Edom's Holiday Stroll that day as shops host a snowy stroll through town with flocked Christmas tress and wandering carolers. The town lights up all the shops at dark thirty. Each shop has something to offer such as goodies, hot chocolate, activities or entertainment. The town is also hosting a toy drive. Call (903) 920-2323 to learn more.
