Greg reached out to the Crisis Center after Hurricane Helene to get support for his elderly neighbor, Bill. Greg had been reaching out to various community resources for days but hadn’t found anyone who was able to provide the immediate support that Bill desperately needed.
As a result of the hurricane, Bill’s trailer had been flooded and was without electricity, impacting his ability to access the internet or call for help. He struggled with mobility issues which were made worse when his scooter was destroyed from the flooding. Bill felt stranded and wasn’t sure what to do.
Thankfully, Crisis Center staff were able to work through Greg to connect Bill to resources for a new scooter and a safe location to live in. Staff were also able to provide emotional support to both individuals since the storm’s impact had been surprising and traumatic. Bill finally felt like he had the support he needed.
