Comparative Evaluation and User Experience with Abbott’s Alinity m HIV-1 Assay at ASLM2021
ASLM is proud to partner with Abbott at the virtual ASLM2021 Conference from 15-18 November. Below, Abbott outlines an overview of their symposium on 16 November (8AM-9AM GMT), ’Comparative evaluation and user experience with the Alinity m HIV‐1 assay in Europe, South Africa and Australia.’ ASLM encourages delegates to visit Abbott’s virtual booth during the conference to get more information on this topic and many others.
It has been estimated that there are 37.9 million individuals living with HIV-1 worldwide, with 24.5 million receiving antiretroviral treatments. The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) announced the 90-90-90 program which aimed to close the gap between HIV-1 diagnosis, treatment and viral suppression. To address the goals of this program, early diagnosis and accurate HIV-1 RNA viral load monitoring became critical. The symposium details the findings of an international multicenter study comparing the performance of the Alinity m HIV-1 Assay to four commercially available HIV-1 viral load assays. The study findings and insights are even more relevant today as countries get their HIV viral load programs back on track, manage COVID-19 testing demands, and maintain progress towards the new 95-95-95 targets.

Dr Leana Maree will present the results of the first real-world validation of the Alinity m HIV-1 assay and she will share her user experience in a high HIV-burden country.
Dr Maree is a clinical virologist with Lancet Laboratories in Johannesburg, South Africa. Lancet Laboratories provides general and specialised pathology services in 13 countries on the African continent. Dr Maree’s research interests include respiratory virus epidemiology, HIV, and CMV in the transplant setting.
