In honor of National Nursing Assistants Week, our May and June newsletters will highlight goals and resources fundamental to appreciating staff through empowerment, recognizing the importance of relationships between staff and residents, and creating the conditions for high staff satisfaction and low turnover.

This month our feature article reviews the Consistent Assignment goal. We’ve got a full package of resources that includes the nitty-gritty of how to make it happen. Please see below. Staff stability is foundational to creating and sustaining a culture of continuous quality improvement. Our enhanced Staff Stability Tracking Tool is hot off the press. This new Excel-based tool calculates both turnover and retention rates, and includes a dashboard for monitoring on-boarding and termination processes, tracking for Staff Satisfaction Survey action plan, and a cost of replacement calculator. We’ll have more on staff stability in our next issue.

Following up on our discussion of resident and family engagement, in their monthly call, state liaisons, heard how Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) are supporting the work of QIN-QIOs . Do you have a story about how residents or their families are helping to improve your community or organization? We’d love to hear about it! Info@nhQualityCampaign.org .

And here’s another way to engage: The Consumer Voice Annual Resident’s Voice Challenge is accepting submissions through September 1, 2017. Residents are encouraged to pick up their pens, dust off their type writers or use a computer to display their writing or artistic skills by submitting essays, poems, artwork, drawings, or videos related to the theme for Residents' Rights Month, October 2017 "It’s All About Me: My Life, My Care, My Choices."

As always,  thank you for making our long term care communities better places to live, work and visit!

Warm regards,
The NNHQI Campaign Team
