Jim and Karyn were brought together by music at Allisonville Christian Church (ACC). Well, sort of… a friend set them up, and their first date was at ACC during the final rehearsal for our 2017 Music for Mission show. Even though Karyn locked herself out of her car, or perhaps because of that, they have been together since that time.

They share interests in sports and music and have similar senses of humor. While Karyn and her daughter Hope have been with ACC several years, it didn’t take Jim long to really start helping out and decide to join. He is always ready to lend a hand and has been a great help cleaning linens after our IHN rotations.

Jim grew up in Logansport and was commuting to Indianapolis daily for his job with Royal Laundry. He went to Purdue on a Baseball Scholarship as a catcher. Unfortunately, he injured his knee badly enough that his baseball career was over. In addition to playing baseball in high school, he was also in musicals (Did you hear that, Chris?). Jim has a 33 year-old son.

Karyn was born near Benton Harbor, Michigan, but moved to Indianapolis at nine months of age. She was baptized in 1985 at Centenary Christian Church by Rick Powell (brother of our Jim Powell). Her grandparents were Hayden and Patsy Oldham, long time members of ACC before they passed. Her daughter Hope is a member and has participated in youth activities and trips.

Jim and Karyn have two Jack Russell terriers named Jelly and Skip. Karyn’s brother Patrick, is head official for Vores Compact Touring Series, and Jim and Karyn are officials on that tour. They married on November 3, 2018, and there isn’t much that goes on at ACC that won’t include one or both of them. They can’t wait until we can all be together again. When that happens, look for them and you will be in for a good time!
