Left to Right: Adam, Kelly, Reid, Kyle, Emily, Sandy, Kendal
Sandy has been a member at ACC since 1968 when her family moved to Indianapolis from Cincinnati. Her parents were lifelong Disciples and were excited to find a home in Arrowhead, the neighborhood across from ACC. Sandy lived in that home until 1980. Kendal grew up in Ashland, Ohio, and attended Ashland University.  He lived there until 1979 when his job transferred him to Indianapolis. Kendal has been a member at ACC since 1982 after he and Sandy were married. They have two adult sons who grew up at ACC: Kyle who is engaged to Emily and lives in Indianapolis and Adam who is married to Kelly and has a beautiful one year old son, Reid and lives in Nashville, TN.

Sandy worked at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 28 years, retiring as a Human Resources Manager in 2007. Sandy enjoys singing, reading, knitting (only at dish cloth or scarf level), puzzles, and spending time with family (especially Reid) and friends.

Kendal started working in corporate America for a few years after college and managed to attain an MBA at Butler University in 1985 after attending part time. He decided that self-employment was the career path that was best for him and started K&J Communications in 1987. Oldest son Kyle is now taking over at K&J. A lifelong gardener, Kendal has been instrumental in getting the ACC garden under way. Other hobbies and interests include golf, traveling and time with family and friends.

In Sandy’s 50+ years at ACC she has been involved in almost all aspects of church ministry and leadership. The ministries that she is currently involved with include singing in the choir, Stephen Ministry leader, Council member, and diaconate member. Another rewarding ministry that Sandy has recently become involved in is volunteering at Horizon House at least once a month. Kendal joined the property ministry shortly after joining ACC and has never left. He prefers to work “behind the scenes” and has helped with audio/video in services for many years. He has also helped on many ACC musical productions behind the scenes. Kendal has also been a member of the diaconate and church council.

Since we are writing this in the middle of social distancing and not worshiping together in our building, Sandy and Kendal want to say how important our virtual service is to them. The services have been excellent and the tech folks that produce it have done an amazing job. The Zoom bible studies and meetings are also a great way to stay connected. I keep thinking about the song that says “I am the church. You are the church. We are the church together. All God’s children, all around the world, yes we’re the church together.”
