“I just want to be a person to a person.”
There is a lot to be said for Allisonville Christian Church (ACC) spirit wear! Without it, we might never have had the opportunity to know a lovey lady named Laurie Mitchell. Laurie just happened to be at the Shipshewanna State Quilt Guild meeting at the same time Nancy Hinkle, ACC member, was there. Nancy was wearing ACC spirit wear. Laurie had been looking for a church that had more of a servants’ heart and decided to give ACC a try. It was definitely the right decision for her.

Laurie was born in Hartford, Connecticut. She has one sister named Chip who is 13 years younger. She lived in Hartford working in insurance from 1969 – 1996 which included several buyouts. American States bought her company in 1996 and closed the office where she was working. They relocated her to Indianapolis, and her husband David moved with her. From 2010-2016, she worked as a civilian in Payroll for the Department of Defense. She and David were married for 40 years, and he was the love of her life. They met in a group called Involved Young Adults. He pursued her until he caught her. The two of them had a wonderful life together until he died in 2014. They both belonged to the Hoosier Herpetology Society, and at one time they had 14 turtles and 7 tortoises in addition to their two cats: Pippin and Suzie.
Laurie loves all kinds of music except Country and Rap. She also enjoys live performances and has been seen at Conner Prairie and Mud Creek Theater with her fellow ACC members. She has many interests including genealogy and growing African violets and Orchids for show, She is a member of the Quilters Guild of Indianapolis and the Indiana State Quilters Guild. Her latest project is downsizing her home while getting ready to move to Florida. Make sure you get to know her before she moves which will be whenever a place opens for her. Knowing Laurie, she will continue to stay in touch through on-line worship and Zoom meetings.
Her ACC interests include serving at Horizon House and working on the ACC presence at Gay Pride. Laurie loves people and wants to spend her life “Being a Person to a Person”.
