“Faith is a big part of my life, and my parents taught us to always
do your best and to do what is right regardless of whether
someone is watching or not.”
Tim Armstrong

“It is what it is. Some things you can do something about.
Some things you can’t. Send a prayer out, and trust that your faith
will see you through.”
Mindy Armstrong
Tim and Mindy Armstrong met while teaching at John Marshall High School, an IPS school. For Tim, it was his second year teaching business, and for Mindy, her first teaching home economics. They met during an orientation meeting to connect current teachers with new teachers to help first year teachers get acclimated. After marrying that next summer, they both began job searches as IPS at that time did not allow married couples to work together. Thinking one of them would stay at John Marshall and whoever found a different job first would move, they chuckled in retelling that they both ended up with new job offers that took them both from IPS.

Mindy went to Washington Township where she taught at Westlane Jr High, North Central H.S. and then J. Everett Light Career Center. While at J. Everett Light, she met and became friends with ACC members Bill and Kathie Meyer. Tim accepted a job with Warren Central H.S. where he taught business and coached tennis. While at Warren, he met and became friends with John Quick and Gary Hume, also ACC members. Over the course of his career at Warren, he served as Business Department Chair and assistant principal. Eventually, he became principal of the Walker Career Center and finally Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Warren Township Schools.

Since retiring from Warren and North Central 16 years ago, both have continued to stay busy and invested in the community. Mindy worked for Butler advising student teachers and then served as a master teacher mentor for new teachers for Washington Township. She still volunteers serving as a reading tutor for IPS School 88 when schools are open and has made masks for family, friends, and Eskenazi Hospital. She and two cousins recently established a scholarship at Salem High School, Indiana, in honor of her father and his four siblings. Both serve at Second Helpings. Tim is active as a consultant in school finance for Warren and two other Indiana school districts. The Armstrong Music Scholarship, in honor of Tim’s brother who passed away at age 12, was recently awarded for the 51st time at Warren Central High School.

Both have served in numerous roles since joining ACC in 2013. Tim has served as elder and currently council chair. Mindy has served as an elder and currently serves on the pre-school committee, nominating committee, and as an office volunteer.

One silver-lining of the pandemic for them has been having their daughter, Lesley, come to stay with them for a few weeks during quarantine for a change of scenery from her home in Chicago.

In addition to being avid Butler fans, Tim and Mindy enjoy traveling and eating out which they have missed. Tim enjoys golf and had recently started playing pickleball before things shut down. Mindy enjoys reading, sewing, and working outside.
