Gfeller Laurie LLP Welcomes Three
New Insurance Coverage Lawyers to
the Firm
The year 2020 has been one of significant growth for Gfeller Laurie LLP’s insurance coverage law team and capabilities.
In late January 2020, Partner Melicent Thompson joined the Firm, bringing to Gfeller Laurie’s already deep bench of coverage law attorneys over twenty years of experience in counseling and litigation in state and federal courts in both Connecticut and Georgia. Her practice encompasses all areas of coverage advice in both the first- and third-party contexts and related litigation services, including declaratory judgment actions, defense of bad faith claims and reinsurance matters. Melicent also has substantial appellate court experience, having briefed and argued appeals before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and both the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts.
Melicent has been joined by her former colleagues, Associate Elizabeth Hoff (joining the Firm in April 2020) and, most recently, Associate Stacey Samuel (joining the Firm in December 2020).
Elizabeth and Stacey similarly offer in-depth understanding of and experience in representing insurers in coverage counseling matters in both the first- and third-party contexts as well as all aspects of associated coverage litigation, including bad faith claims.
The timing of these key additions to the Gfeller Laurie insurance coverage law team has been ideal for many reasons, not the least of which is that together, the three attorneys comprise a wealth of knowledge and experience in handling first party coverage claims in the natural disaster context, directly relevant to the wave of COVID-19 first party coverage litigation currently before the nations’ courts.
