Happy Black History Month HP 2025!!!

Our next Book Club meeting will be Wednesday, February 5 at 3:15 in the library! We will discuss We Are Not Free by Traci Chee. Please let Ms. Meyer know if you would like to borrow a copy of the book.

The Black Student Union invites you to join us. February is a month to shine a bright light on black history, black excellence, and black joy. This year, the BSU wants to recognize how our student body is connected to the greater African Diaspora. Express interest by completing this short Google Form (link here). The BSU is planning several events and hopes to include new members. Use this link for further information about the BSU.

Athletics

National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is Wednesday, February 5th. NGWSD began in 1987 as a special day to recognize women’s sports. The goal was to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in athletics. We will be sponsoring a breakfast on Wednesday at 7:15am in the student cafeteria for all female athletes, and coaches of female sports, to acknowledge the accomplishments of girls and women in sports, the positive influence of sports participation, and the importance for equality for women in sports.

It was a busy weekend for HP Athletics with many highlights:

  1. Girls Gymnastics finished 2nd in the CSL North at the Conference Meet on Friday. Amelie Gerber, Maddyn Cohen and Jillian Mangione continue to shine for the Varsity.
  2. Girls Basketball celebrated Senior Night and then defeated Niles North on Friday to clinch at least a share of the CSL North Title. This is back to back conference championships for our program.
  3. Boys Basketball got a great bounce back victory on Saturday against Chicago Fenger in the Ronald “Chops” Billinger Memorial Shootout. This was the 20th anniversary of the shootout and Highland Park was recognized before the game for participating in the event all 20 years.
  4. We had 4 of our Girls Wrestlers competing at the IHSA Regional. A Giant congratulations to Dana Holt (Regional Champ), Dorothy Perez (3rd Place), Riley Moore (3rd Place), and Lexi Rosenthal (3rd Place) who all advanced to next week’s Sectional at New Trier.
  5. Boys Swim & Dive was victorious on Senior Night over Maine West. Diver Benny Marcus had a great night for the Giants!
  6. Boys Wrestling competed hard, but came up short against Deerfield at the Varsity level.  This was an important tune-up for the team before the Regional Tournament this coming week.

Congratulations to Dylan on this well-deserved honor and the experience of representing Highland Park High School on the All-State Team. This marks back-to-back achievements for Lansky, who earned his selection to the All-State Team as a Junior last year as well. Congratulations again and good luck!
