Dr. Joaquin Stephenson - Student Activities Director
Hello everyone! My name is Dr. Stephenson and I am the new Director of Student Activities at Highland Park High School (HPHS)! As a Mexican-American (Chicano) born and raised in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood, I had the gift growing up in a bicultural experience by learning what it means to be Mexican inside the home and what it means to be Puerto Rican, within the context of the rich culture of Humboldt Park. I attended Chicago Public Schools and was inspired by my first and only Latino male teacher, Senior Terroba at Schurz High School, to be a change agent for youth as a future educator. I received his Bachelor's degree in secondary education from Northeastern Illinois University, his Masters in School Leadership from Concordia University, and my Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a Superintendent Endorsement from Loyola University Chicago. I am a trained facilitator of Courageous Conversations (Beyond Diversity) and Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (S.E.E.D.) both locally and nationally.
I love HPHS, as it is a true microcosm of our beautiful and diverse country. I’m honored to be a part of the family and look forward to creating amazing experiences alongside our incredible students, families/caregivers, and staff who are the heartbeat that makes HP a model for public education and student experiences!
Activities Fair will be held August 22-25 during Lunch Periods!
