June is shaping up to be a month full of sunshine and planning at Gibault Children's Services as the Spring Appeal has kicked off to support new pickleball courts for the Terre Haute Campus. This will allow an extracurricular opportunity for youth to boost their treatment services! This addition will allow children to experience self-confidence, enhance focus, release energy, and reduce stress.

30^th ANNUAL GIBAULT GOLF SCRAMBLE

Gibault’s 30th Annual Golf Scramble held at The Country Club of Terre Haute on Thursday, May 14, 2026, was an incredible day! From the first tee-off to the last putt we saw great skill and heard a whole lot of laughter out on the course. We shared stories of past outings and made memories that will last far beyond the day. A huge shout out to golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and our corporate sponsor First Financial Bank. Without the hard work and generosity of all who participated none of it would have been possible. Until next year, keep your swings smooth and your spirits high!

MORE BETTER DAYS, TOGETHER

The theme of the month of May was More Better Days, Together. In clinical therapy group, youth were asked to create a poster centered around mental health awareness. Seven posters were selected as favorites, and staff were asked to vote. We had many budding artists who rose to the occasion. It was a very close contest, but the winning poster was created by Braelyn who resides in Bugby South. Braelyn wanted to share some information about herself, and her parents gave permission to use her name.

Hi, my name is Braelyn and my favorite color is red, like a ford car red; rusty, but bright. I love chicken and dumplings and guess what? Gibault serves this. I love how we have many different food groups offered at each meal. YUM! Gibault provides many activities in summer and winter. My favorite is basketball. You don't have to have any good skills, they work with what you have. I'd like to give a shoutout to some of the staff that have helped me on my journey. Shout out to Ms. Cheesman, Ms. Brunton, Ms. Smith, Ms. Despain and Ms. Haviland, our RSM for south. She has never given up on us! I would also like to thank Ms. Striegel, Ms. Chitalo and our group director, Ms. Archer, for everything they do for us as therapists! May has been such a positive month. I love the walks and all we have been doing in May. It makes us feel heard, so overall I really like Gibault.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Therapist Abby Moody created a bulletin board focusing on mental health. Each week, youth and staff were able to continue to think about different aspects of mental health with our Question of the Week board. Each week had a couple of simple questions, and everyone was able to write answers on post-it notes to share their answers. One of the questions was "What activities help you alleviate stress?". Answers included: deep breathing, going outside, listening to music, reading, watching a funny show/movie, sports, and writing. These questions allowed staff and clients to have further discussions about the questions and answers; normalizing discussing coping skills and building rapport.

Many clients enjoyed writing and sharing their answers! 

NORTHWEST CAMPUS

The Clinical and Residential Department held a

5 Senses Mindfulness Walk-About around campus. Five stations were set up, each representing one of the five senses and a corresponding activity to go along with it. Youth and staff walked around the pond and then ended the Walk-About playing yard games and enjoying the sun.

The Clinical Department also "planted" a gratitude tree in the staff lounge for Mental Health Awareness Month. All staff were invited to add on leaves or flowers as a note of gratitude.  

UNDERSTANDING RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT SERIES

To help families better understand the residential treatment process and the necessary support to successfully transition back into the home environment, Director of Client Care, Ashley Jackson, BS has developed a series of parent training videos. These videos are designed to provide education about the purpose of residential treatment, the importance of continued family involvement, and the understanding that treatment is not a “fix-all,” but rather one part of a larger process of growth, support, and long-term success for youth and families. The long-term goal is to develop an online library of resources that can be accessed through our website and shared with families at the beginning of admission, as well as throughout treatment, to provide

ongoing education, reinforcement, and support.

LEADERSHIP IS ON THE MOVE

President/CEO Michele Madley and Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Rob Sturm recently attended a legislative panel in Indianapolis.

Rob and McKayla Cox, Director of Human Resources, will be attending Presidium Sexual Abuse Prevention Training for Organizations in June.

Mrs. Madley was also a part of a community mental health panel at Ivy Tech Community College on June 2^nd with several community mental health leaders.

HOLY CROSS NEWS

Field Day was held on May 21, 2026, to end the school year. The kids participated in four different events that tested their speed and agility. To varying degrees, all classrooms were able to participate, and the students had a lot of fun!

Two students from the ABLE Unit attended the Gibault Golf Scramble at the Terre Haute Country Club. They ate a great lunch provided to them on site, spent time with leadership staff, assisted CEO Mrs. Madley in welcoming the golfers and lead the golfers onto the golf course. They were so excited to ride in a golf cart and for the opportunity to participate! They were shining stars!

Students just finished up the regular school year and are preparing for summer school soon. Many children were discharge from programming therefore, Principal Mr. Cuffman is ready to see new faces after

the short break!

NEWS FROM AROUND CAMPUS

Gibault is excited to announced that a three-year CARF accreditation was approved.

Gibault Northwest Campus received new signs on campus.

During the State Council Winter Meeting of the Indiana Knights of Columbus a collection was taken as members heard Gibault was unable to provide raises or bonuses to staff this year because of insurance premiums skyrocketing. This money was specially donated to treat staff on both of our children's campuses. 

Requirements were simple-staff had to be full time, had worked at Gibault for over a year, and not have an unsafe number of occurrences, which would put them at risk of being terminated according to our policy. We are happy to report 69 eligible staff received a take home pay (gift) of $159.42 each. Additionally, Gibault paid the taxes on earnings so that the employees benefited from the entire amount!

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS-FATHER AUGUST YOUNG, COUNCIL #1790

For over two decades, Knights of Columbus Council #1790 has provided funding for children and their families. This remarkable support by way of a Golf Scramble has provided Gibault Children's Services over $100,000.
