This Week's Blog - St. Luke's Hospital, did you know?

"The hospital was originally founded by leaders and members of the Episcopal Church in partnership with local physicians, and admitted their first patient on February 28, 1866, in a small 25-room infirmary near what is present-day Interstate 55 and Russell Boulevard. The hospital started with a medical staff of only eight physicians, with family and friends providing nursing care.."

James "Jim" Madson

Long-time Presbytery Volunteer of the Presbytery and member of First Presbyterian of Kirkwood, passed away on October 8, 2024, at the age of 91. Please pray for Fran and their family, in this loss.

A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, 100 East Adams Avenue, Kirkwood, MO 63122.

SEEKING CO-EDITOR

The Search Committee for the Presbyterian Women of Giddings-Lovejoy is searching for a co-editor of their newsletter entitled, The Linkletter. The co-editor will be responsible for using technology to format articles and pictures related to Presbyterian Women’s activities into a publication that can be shared throughout the Presbytery. The Linkletter is sent by email, usually on a quarterly basis. The Linkletter co-editor will attend Co-ordinating Team meetings that are held by Zoom on the third Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. 2025 Presbyterian Youth - TRIENNIUM

Get Ready! In July 2025, the Presbyterian Church (USA) will welcome thousands of its high school-age youth and their adult youth workers to Louisville, Kentucky for four days of worship, recreation, bible study, outreach, and faith formation all around the theme of “As If We Were Dreaming”. The Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery will be sending a delegation from our churches. More information to come shortly.

The MVM member will share information about 5 proposed constitutional amendments and one proposition that will be on the November 5th election ballot.

Proposition A: increase the state's minimum wage to $15.

Amendments to be discussed are:

·        Amendment 2: Legalize and regulate sports wagering

·        Amendment 3: Provide state constitutional right to reproductive freedom, defined to include abortion

·        Amendment 5: Permit additional gambling boat license on the Osage River

·        Amendment 6: Levy costs and fees to support law enforcement personnel salaries and benefits

·        Amendment 7: Prohibit ranked-choice voting and noncitizen voting

The 2024 Florence L. Warren Lectureship at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, titled “Presbyterian Identity Today,” will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024.

 Free and open to the public, the lectureship will begin with a panel discussion from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Straatmeyer Rehearsal Room, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque. The discussion will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/DubuqueSeminary.
