Remember: Don’t Play with Fire...Yet Do
"We have been touched by, we have received this precious spark of faith and love and hope: a flame that nurtures and sustains us, the fire that gives us life and meaning and purpose. And we celebrate having received this from others: others having shared this spark and passed this fire on to us...."

PWGL 2024 Fall Gathering - “Do Everything in Love!”
By Ann Schmid, Co-editor, The Linkletter
On Saturday, October 26, 2024, women from churches all over the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy gathered at New Horizons Presbyterian Church in Overland, Missouri, hosted by the women of the Pendo Presbyterian Church. The theme of the gathering, “Do Everything in Love!”, focused on the major concepts from the 2024 Presbyterian Women’s Churchwide Gathering held here in St. Louis in August.
|
The gathering began with a spirited presentation including song and movement by four women from the Pendo Church. Mary Melau spoke to the meaning of the name, Pendo, which is Love, followed by Caroline Kungu speaking about the church in Kenya. Reverand Janet Riley, Co-moderator of PWGL, led a discussion where various participants shared their experiences having attended the Churchwide Gathering, either in person or on Zoom. Women were moved by a sense of community and spiritual renewal. Communion was offered by Rev. Janet Riley with a meditation based on Scriptures: 1 John 4:16 and Matthew 22:34-40.
| |
A free-will offering was collected with $194 going to the PWGL Scholarship Fund and $575 for the mission, “Well Water and Solar Project in Kenya”, supported by the Presbytery of Giddings Lovejoy Mission Committee. Special thanks to Candance Parsons and David Chege for sharing the goals of this valuable mission to supply clean water to others in need! Thanks, too, to the women of the Pendo Church for hosting such a delicious lunch, uplifting music, and hospitality. Stay tuned for future plans for the PWGL 2025 Spring Gathering. We would like to see everyone join us!
