DECEMBER 2020
Greetings!

The Christmas season is such a wonderful time of year for so many reasons. This year has been unlike any other, with so many of the things we look forward to during this festive season not possible. With all the changes we can still take pleasure in the simple things this Christmas, one of which is the opportunity to choose special gifts for those we care about. At the Mulberry Bush Bookstores we believe books make the best gifts because they're timeless, personal, re-readable, portable, they don't require batteries, are perfect for sharing, and so enjoyable.

We have beautiful new books arriving daily. You can browse our selection from the safety and comfort of your home, using our online store. You can reserve books we have in-stock, paying securely on-line or when you pick-up. We want to help you get everything you need this Christmas, as easily and safely as possible, and we appreciate you choosing to shop with us.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your friendship and support in 2020. A year like no other, your determination to shop locally, has been inspiring and has kept us going through these long months. Seeing a recommitment to read in our community has brought us so much hope. We wish you a Christmas filled with good health, peace, and love and a New Year full of hope.

Merry Christmas!

SOS ANGEL TREE PROGRAM AGAIN THIS YEAR.

How the program works:

The Angel Tree program helps stock the SOS Toy Shop where parents, grandparents, and caregivers can shop for free for their children.

Purchase a book in one of our stores appropriate for one of the age groups listed on the Angel ornaments. We will take the books once they are paid for and they will be collected by the SOS and delivered to local children and youth.

DECEMBER STAFF PICKS
JAN'S PICK

A fascinating account of scientific exploration from archaeologists, climate scientists, geographers, marine biologists, and others exploring the beauty and complexity of life at this edge of the country. Full of spectacular photography this book would make a great gift for yourself, or the budding scientist in your life.
ANTONIA'S PICK

Meticulously researched, hilariously witty, and at times incredibly tender, Gone Viking – A Travel Saga is one mans journey to travel the routes of legendary Norse explorers, while occasionally creating his own paths. Everything Arnott puts onto the page is like a glistening curl of oil paint, glowing with charm and a genuine reverence for the subject. This book was a privilege to read, and will likely double as a cherished travel guide in the future.

BARB'S PICK

Anthony Horowitz, author of the bestselling The Magpie Murders, has done it again!  This brilliantly entertaining British murder mystery will keep you guessing, with its fiendishly clever plotting, engaging characters, and story full of twists and surprises. Great fun to read!
TOM'S PICK

This collection of 17 stories features personal reflections told in the first person narrative. Through inspiring and hopeful stories, highlighting overcoming adversity and breaking down barriers, we see that ordinary people can make a difference. These everyday heroes put the lives of their fellow Canadians first for our greater good. A very uplifting read.
MARIANNE'S PICK

National Book Award Winner

This refreshing and highly original story is one like you have never read before. Willis Wu is used to being a generic Asian man in a cop show called Black & White, but who is he really? This funny, heartfelt, unique novel masterfully explores themes of culture, race, identity, family, and the human condition.
SUSAN'S PICK

Narrated by opera singer Dawn Woodward, whose career has been abruptly cut short, this quirky yet charming book gives insight into the worlds of opera and music. Dawn's life becomes complicated when her husband's terminally ill brother moves into their home with his dearly loved African grey parrot, a bird you can’t help but come to love. There are moments of hilarity and sorrow, as well as hope in the power of human connection.

An exciting follow-up to her classic, Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain, this book informs you not just how to look, but to truly see.
