Known for its scenic train rides, the Ministry of Transport has unveiled a spectacular addition to Sri Lanka’s railway network, the Dunhinda Odyssey luxury tourist train. News on the Ground: Infrastructure Updates
Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva announced ambitious plans to modernise the Hingurakgoda domestic airport, signalling a major investment of Rs. 17 billion to enable international flight operations. The overarching vision includes positioning Hingurakgoda Airport alongside key airports like Katunayake, Mattala, Ratmalana and Jaffna to enhance connectivity and spur economic growth nationwide.
Simultaneously, the Sri Lankan Cabinet has given the green light to import 1,000 vehicles exclusively for the tourism industry to enhance transportation services for tourists. This includes a combination of vans and buses with electric and hybrid variants, each servicing a range of small and larger groups from 6 to 45 people.
