Spring Flooding Update

Mogollon Baldy - Photo Credit: Nigel Holman

So far, the rivers have only risen temporarily.

However, there is still much snow in the high country.

Will it melt slowly, or will it rain in the high country, causing it to flood suddenly?

Be aware of the flood potential if traveling in March or April.

Check out the links and guide to understanding the Rivers in the Gila.

Backcountry Adventures

Ring Canyon/Little Creek Loop

This loop has the diversity of ridge top with expansive views and open creek bottom in ponderosa forests. It can be a day hike/horse ride, or it can be an overnight. Leaves from Woody's Corral.

Little Bear to Lilley Park Loop Hiking Route

This loop showcases the open old-growth ponderosa mesas of Woodland Park and Lilley Park.

Spring is a good time of year for this loop because the seasonal water sources still have water (most years)

Throughout this loop, there are many views of cliffs, canyons, and the Gila Wilderness. Compared to traveling along river trails, this loop does not have many river crossings, so travel is quicker.
