Check out Chilvers!
Jason Chilvers is apprentice carpenter for Lighthouse Contracting Group. He learns many skills while being at work. Over the summer, he learned how to frame an entire house from the ground up. Since they are “finish carpenter” and “remodelers”, not all projects are a full house build. During his internship so far, he has been finishing up the house he assisted building this summer as well as a few small bathroom remodels. He is putting in a wood floor, trim around all doors and windows, baseboards, all wood stairs and many other things in the full house build. Jason said he's learned how to prepare all the material like sanding and cutting all of them at a certain size for mass production. His coworkers are great at helping him out when he has questions and teaching him many different tricks they have learned from their experiences over the years being in the field. Jason said he is very grateful to have this opportunity and for having the coworkers and boss that he has. He feels confident that this internship has helped set him up for future success. Thanks to Lighthouse Contracting Group for partnering with Jason and GHS!

We Invite you...
School of Rock looks better and better with each day of practice! The acting is awesome, the singing sounds great, the dancing is sharp, and the onstage musicians sound amazing. The costumes are fantastic and the set is really coming along. I cannot say enough about the wonderful and talented cast and crew who are working so hard to get the show ready. This is a definite must see!
Siravo signs
Congrats to Adrian Siravo for signing his letter of intent to attend the University of Uconn to play baseball.

Graduation Update
Thanks to all the seniors and senior parents that responded to the survey I put out. Here is some information.

Of the 66 parents that responded, 72% stated they would like to have Graduation at Bank of NH Pavilion. 15% would like to have Graduation on the athletic fields at GHS.

Of the 104 seniors that responded, 71% stated they would like to have Graduation at Bank of NH Pavilion. 22% would like to have Graduation on the athletic fields at GHS.

Based on the overwhelming responses for Bank of NH Pavilion, the School Board approved the Bank of NH Pavilion as the site for Graduation IF they are willing to host. We have already reached out and are waiting to hear back.

Based on the past few years, if we are provided Father's Day again, the date will be June 21.
Bank of NH Pavilion will not confirm any dates until 60 days of the proposed Graduation date. For example, if we are hoping to graduate on June 21, we will not be provided a contract until April 21 if we are awarded that day so no official notification will go out prior to that day. Graduation can be set for any day from June 10 - 21, 2020 dependent upon Bank of NH Pavilion.

Unfortunately, it's now a waiting game and out of our hands. I will provide you additional information when we have some to update you with. Please contact Mr. Goggin if you have further questions regarding Graduation.
We completed our second week of LEAD block which was designed so we could embed an intervention block during the school day for learners to access teachers, allow for deeper learning, provide time for collaborative projects, and many more activities. Initial reports from staff members have been beyond positive! They are thrilled with the chance to provide additional support.

Learners are just as ecstatic and report they now have time to...
  • Meet with teachers during the day
  • Make up an assessment
  • Work with peers on a project who do not live in the same community which was difficult to get together outside of school
  • Reduced anxiety among learners because they now have a few minutes to relax
  • Attend a meditation session
  • Work with a school counselor for college application process

We will gain specific data from the student body within the next few weeks but felt it was important to share some news with you.

The best part of this LEAD block is our students are now leading their OWN learning !

LEAD block is helping our learners be innovative, collaborative, self-directed citizens who think critically.

Two students preparing for Michelle Bernard's “Shark Tank” in Digital Connections class next week. Students have been developing business ideas using a variety of technologies. Each trimester, teams present their business investment idea to a panel of “Sharks” similar to the ABC show “Shark Tank”.
Giving Back
On Veteran's Day, many of the B-G hockey players participated and raked this WWII Veterans yard for a couple hours. There's a lot of service being provided to the Gilford and Gilmanton communities by our students. Keep up the great work!
