Good Morning,

This is the second update in three days. Sorry to "over-connect" but we feel it's important that we update you on our progress as we transition to remote learning officially starting on Monday, March 23rd.

As we transition to remote learning, please check our resource page called " remote learning " which can be viewed on the GHS website.

It is imperative that you check emails throughout this remote learning opportunity. The effort and work you put into these opportunities now, will assist you down the road. If you do not take this seriously, there will be gaps in your learning.

Please call 524-7146 with any questions you may have while our offices are currently open but with limited staff.

School Counseling Office

We hope you are doing well and staying healthy. This period of isolation can be stressful, especially while we are adjusting to new routines. Please don't do it alone! Call 527-9654 and leave a message with a # to call you back and we will call you! We can chat via phone, Google Meet, or just email. We can also talk in groups if that would be helpful. You are also welcome to reach out to your school counselor by email to share any concerns.

As always, let us know if you are worried about yourself, a friend, or family member. If we cannot help, we can connect you to other resources and offer support. If there is an emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Finally, remember, we want to hear how you are doing! Reach out and tell us about your day.It will be good for all of us to stay connected.

Helping Students Manage Uncertainty During COVID-19

We are building a Remote Learning site to assist students and parents. Currently, there are sample schedules your child can follow to provide structure. We've also placed the staff contact list and other resources on this page.

Transcript from this morning's phone message - 3/19/20

Good Morning Parents,

This is Anthony Sperazzo, Gilford High School Principal.

Our staff is positioned to launch remote learning on Monday, March 23rd although many of your children have already heard from teachers about expectations going forward. This is a time to complete missing work and finalize your reassessments.

As you know, we have been using Google Classroom for quite some time now and this will be our main platform for reaching students. Most assignments can be viewed in your teacher's Google Classroom each morning by 9:00am unless there's an ongoing assignment. Teachers will also be using Google Meet which will allow for curriculum to be taught while joining a chat live and interacting. Please be patient with this platform.

Each staff member has been asked to make office hours public so that students can access them and can expect almost an immediate response. For contact outside office hours, staff members have committed to respond within 24 hours.

We are creating a remote learning page that is full of resources to assist you during this time and can be viewed at the GHS website named, "Remote Learning" at the top of the page. This page will be growing.

For this online learning to be successful, I am asking you and also pleading with you that you check your email frequently. This will make or break this unique learning opportunity. The work that is put in now will help down the road. If the effort is not made, there will be learning gaps that show up later.

Please be patient. You can do this! Have fun! Take a picture of yourself learning and completing your assignments and Tweet it at GilfordHigh or send me an email so we can post how you're learning.

Trimester 2 ends March 27

Instead of trimester 2 closing March 20, we are training staff to transition to remote learning. During this week of training (3/16-3/20), staff members will learn how to use Google Meet as a means to communicate with live video conferencing and tutorials along with Google Classroom which has already been used in classes.

Parents, you may receive an invitation from your child's teacher inviting you to join Google Classroom. This will allow you to receive updates about assignments.

During this week (3/16 - 3/20), learners should be finishing their work, creating opportunities for reassessments with teachers, and getting ready to begin assignments. Contact from your teachers may come as early as Thursday (3/19). Do NOT wait to be contacted. Be self-directed.

No Final Exams

As a staff, we discussed, on Monday, the need to provide opportunities for our learners to demonstrate competency through projects, assessments, and demonstrations of knowledge during the final week of the trimester instead of stressing over the review for final exams.
