Hello GAHA Members!

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. It is hard to believe it is September. So, now that you all have rested up over the long weekend, I am requesting your help for the Attic Sale. I have several people that have offered to help, but I know I am going to need more. Next Monday I will be at GAHA to start bringing items down from the attic to start sorting and pricing. Please, let me know what you can do and what days you can work so I can plan accordingly. We are having the Member Pre-Sale on the 23rd so we need to have the majority of the items priced by Wednesday.

Also, please bring any items you wish to donate to the sale. Remember they are tax deductible and GAHA benefits! It is a win-win for everyone!

I look forward to working with you and seeing you at the Attic Sale! Spread the word!

Georgia Work Ready

A phenomenal program, Georgia Work Ready was launched in August 2006 by Governor Sonny Perdue and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. It was set up to improve the job training and marketability of Georgia's workforce, and drive future economic growth for the state. It is the only initiative of its kind to be conducted through a partnership between a state government and a state chamber of commerce, ensuring that companies can more reliably match the right people with the right jobs. Work Ready is based on a skills assessment and certification for job seekers and a job profiling system for businesses. By identifying both the needs of businesses and the available skills of Georgia's workforce, the state can more effectively generate the right workers for the right jobs.
Here in Gilmer County, we are set for two more testing sessions for Georgia Work Ready. Anyone wishing to be tested can contact the Chamber for pre-registrations.
We will be able to take 25-28 people in each session.

They are scheduled at the Dalton State College Gilmer Campus on September 17 at 9 a.m. and September 24 at 12 p.m.
Anyone wishing to take the test is welcome, but as of now we are working towards reaching our testing goals. So far we have tested 45 individuals for private employment, with 98 more to go to reach our goal of 143; and we have tested 19 publicly employed individuals, with 7 more to go to reach our goal of 26. We also have tested 4 individuals who have their GED, and we need to test 5 more to reach our goal of 9.

Anyone wishing to be tested can call the Chamber at
706/635-7400 with the following information:
Full name
Date of Birth
Last 3 digits Social Security
Email Address
Phone Number

Or visit Chattahoochee Technical College-Appalachian Campus in Jasper on Wednesdays at 12:30p. Contact Sandy Hughes at 706-253-4515 or to register.
Happy Testing!!!

North Georgia Employer Committee Meeting
The North Georgia Employer Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at 12:00p at Appalachian Community Bank Conference Center in Ellijay, GA.

This meeting is extremely important to all employers, educators and agencies. Speakers will focus on money saving programs and tax breaks.

*Richard Lee Jennings, CFCA, CPA, R.L. Jennings and Co., will be discussing a tax break called Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act.

*Georgia Work$ is a program through the Georgia Department of Labor that can assist an employer with training costs. Employers estimate that the average cost of training a new employee is at least 1/3 their annual salary. If they leave and have to be replaced add another 1/3 for training the replacement. Lisa Adkisson will be presenting this information.

*Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is another tax credit for employers who hire new employees from certain target groups. Did you know that a tax credit can sometimes be taken if you hire a Qualified Veteran, Disabled Veteran, Vocational Rehabilitation Referral, Qualified Ex-felon or SSI Recipient? Georgia Department of Labor Vocational Rehabilitation will be providing information on this program.

Please call or email Carol Green if you plan to attend. It is open to everyone. Lunch will be provided for $9.00. Please RSVP.
