Fun Friday: Play with Purpose

We hosted our 4th Annual Playground Equipment Fun Friday with Mija Fitness and APM Terminals- Los Angeles. This yearly initiative began in 2022 with Monique Flores, CEO/Founder of Mija Fitness, a former Girls Inc. volunteer who saw a need to provide girls with new equipment to play with and an opportunity to introduce them to boxing!

Our Fun Friday began with a high-energy shadow boxing session led by Mija Fitness, where girls learned the basics of boxing and practiced their punches with the volunteers. The afternoon continued as volunteers from Mija Fitness and APM Terminals joined the girls on the playground for free play with the new playground equipment.

To support the initiative, APM Terminals- Los Angeles partnered with us to fulfill our playground equipment wish list—everything from soccer balls and hula hoops to jump ropes and even rocket launchers!

We are grateful to our partners who are investing their time, talent and resources to help girls thrive!

Chasing Dreams with FP Movement

We welcomed FP Movement at our new school partner, Bret Harte Middle School!

FP Movement invited special guests Nonah Waldron and Falyn Lott from USC Track & Field to share their journeys as student-athletes. They led our girls in a warm-up stretch, shared pre-run rituals and even raced them.

Nonah, who competed as part of Team USA, gave insight into her experience performing at such a high level. 

We're thankful for our partners who connect our girls to strong, driven women who are doing incredible things.

What Inspires You to Be a Role Model?

For National Volunteer Week (April 20- 26), we asked our volunteers what inspired them to be a positive role model to Girls Inc. girls.

Volunteer Matina shared, "I’m motivated by the impact this program has on the girls. It provides them with invaluable learning experiences and the support they need to grow. Being a positive role model is important to me because I believe in the power of guidance and encouragement to shape their futures in meaningful ways."

A big shoutout to all our volunteers who show up to encourage the next generation of girls to dream big!
