Our Girls are Building Strong Foundations

In honor of National Engineers Week (February 16-22), Buro Happold invited our middle school girls for an immersive day high atop Los Angeles on the 68th floor of the US Bank Tower. The visit included a panel of women professionals who showcased their work in engineering and urban planning, showing examples of their work come to life.

Then the girls collaborated with engineers to construct their own bridges using popsicle sticks. Donning hard hats and vests, they tested their handiwork by adding weights to see what their bridges could withstand.

We're proud to collaborate with partners who recognize the importance of increasing the representation of girls and women in STEAM and giving our girls real world exposure to exciting career paths.

PROGRAMMING

Smart Unit Wrap-Up

Over the past seven weeks, our girls have been immersed in the world of STEAM through our Smart Unit, engaging in hands-on activities that sparked their curiosity and strengthened their critical and problem-solving skills.

As a fun way to close out the unit, girls crafted their own bubble-making nets with sticks and string. The results were giant bubbles that soared high into the sky!

Through each experiment, our girls embrace challenges, ask questions and explore the world around them—all while having fun!
