Paramount Partners with Girls Inc. LA for "Mean Girls"

Paramount Pictures selected Girls Inc. as their official partner to launch their new musical film, "Mean Girls." Girls Inc. LA contributed to a discussion guide for the movie and our girls got to attend a special screening of the film earlier this month.

Our middle school girls enjoyed a day at the movies with their friends and were able to discuss the film's themes of allyship, friendship, bullying and creating safe spaces in schools.

The film discussion guide, which was distributed nationwide, was designed to support meaningful dialogue and help adults who want to spark conversation with teens after the movie. We shared a few questions here and you can find a Mean Girls Film Discussion Guide HERE.

Ideas for conversation starters after the film:

  • How have your friends changed from elementary/middle school? How have others changed?
  • How do you stay strong under pressure to be like everyone else?
  • How do your friends support each other?

We are grateful for Paramount's partnership and support in providing this wonderful experience! Together, we are dispelling the myth of the "mean girl."

PROGRAMMING

What Strong Means to Us

Our return to Girls Inc. programming started by reflecting on what we learned during the fall Strong Unit, which focused on building community and confidence.

In an interview-style video, our girls asked each other, "What does strong mean to you?"

Here's a recap of what girls shared:

  • Being powerful
  • Being confident
  • To never give up

We are excited to continue our Strong Unit that will focus on stress management, nutrition and movement!

Community Spotlight

Girls Inc. LA Program Facilitator: Olivia Ramirez

Meet Girls Inc. LA Program Facilitator Olivia Ramirez, who leads programming at two of our elementary school partners!

With a science education background and an Earth System Science degree from the University of California Irvine, she is excited to provide mentorship that helps young girls learn lifelong skills.

When asked about how she embraces our mission, Olivia says, "I inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold by creating a safe space and encouraging them to learn about themselves and share their experiences while showing them that it's okay to make mistakes."

Olivia's words of wisdom: "Always be unapologetically you! You belong in any space just the way you are."
