Building Community for a Powerful Year

As we reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new friends into Girls Inc. we are facilitating activities designed to build connection, empathy and a strong sense of community for the new school year.

To set the tone, girls created their own community agreements at each school, allowing them to feel ownership of the space. We want every girl to be seen, heard and respected in every space. By empowering girls to make decisions about what activities they want to do and how they want the Girls Inc. space to look, we are building their confidence to freely share their thoughts, ideas and advocate for themselves.

Together, we can make this our best school year yet! Please consider making a donation to support the next generation of Los Angeles leaders.

PROGRAMMING

A New Curriculum

Framework

Instead of separating our curriculum by our strong, smart and bold pillars, we are interweaving the pillars throughout the school year and taking inspiration from the "Heroine's Journey."

Program Services Director, Kate Morris says, "We are using the 'Heroine's Journey' for our unit guides because it focuses on the agency and abilities of the person instead of changing who she is." As mentors, our role is to guide girls in discovering that inner power, inspiring them to be strong, smart and bold.

Every lesson connects our pillars and focuses on Social-Emotional Learning based on the CASEL Framework. We are excited to engage students in a new way!
