Dear Girls Inc. Families and Friends,

Happy Fall Season! Girls Inc. of Carpinteria has started the year off with a bang! Girls are learning new skills in SMART programs, testing themselves physically in STRONG programs, and making new memories with our BOLD dedicated staff. In September we kicked off our new Gymnastics program as well as offering a Soccer Skills Clinic. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS & UPDATES

SMART in After School Enrichment

Each groups rotates through a weekly fun, hands-on STEM lesson. This September, girls are finishing up engineering month!

Older groups engineered water slides, learned about marine engineering by making boats, and made shelters that stood against different weather patterns.

Younger groups but their sports-mind to the test to engineer basketball hoop and soccer goals. They also received a bit of fairy tale magic dust to engineer a bed for Goldilocks!

Up next is Chemistry Month (October), also known as SPOOKY SCIENCE MONTH!

PROGRAM PARTNER HIGHLIGHT

Carpinteria Middle School After School Program

In partnership with the Carpinteria Unified School District, Girls Inc. After School Program at Carpinteria Middle School begins October. We are so excited to return to the CMS campus for a second year! Being on the CMS campus helps us serve more girls in the 12-14 years old group. Girls Inc. After School at CMS will offer a variety of activities to help girls build the skills and attitudes needed to overcome obstacles in their teen years. Girls will receive dive into topics around STEM, personal development, career and college readiness, healthy relationships and friendships. AROUND CAMPUS

COURTYARD RENOVATION

Our courtyard will be renovated in the upcoming months! Construction will kick off with the The Lynda Fairly Courtyard Groundbreaking Ceremony on Thursday, September 29 at 4:30 PM.

Construction will be completed in phases as to not interfere with programming on campus. Fences will be placed and safety measures will be taken to close off construction areas to girls. Construction is scheduled to finish in early December.

TRUNK OR TREAT

Join us on October 31st from 3:30 to 5:00 PM for a fun-filled afternoon. Girls Inc. will host their annual Halloween Trunk or Treat.

Girls Inc. staff, parents, and volunteers decorate the trunks of their car to provide a safe and spook-tastic afternoon for all!

We are still looking for volunteers to join in on the fun! Volunteers can decorate their car, host a game table, or pass out candy. Please contact Gloria Flores at Gloria@girlsinc-carp.org for more details or to sign up to volunteer.

HEALTHY SEXUALITY PROGRAMS

Informed Together

This program is for girls ages 9-11 and parents/caregivers, and is designed to be flexible in jump-starting and deepening essential conversations about sexuality between girls and their parents/caregivers.

Four modules address development of girls’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes as well as development of parent-child communication.

Please check the information board and folders outside of the Girls Inc. building for updates and information. Remind text messages are sent for group and program-specific reminders, schedule changes, or updates. Please contact Claudia Vargas at Claudia@girlsinc-carp.org to make sure you are signed up for Remind text messages The Girls Inc. Calendar includes billing dates, holidays/closures, and other important dates is linked below.

Please remember that campus continues to be closed to parents and visitors, unless they sign in at the front desk as a visitor or have a scheduled visit with a Girls Inc. staff member. Help us keep our campus safe!
Please help us create a distraction-free environment and make sure toys, art kits and electronics including cell phones stay at home.
Please bring a refillable water bottle every day and close-toed shoes.
Please label lunchboxes, backpacks, and other belongs so we can make sure they find their way back to your student if lost.
Absences (no school pick-up) should be reported by 12:00 PM of that day. A $5 fee will be charged for non-reported absence.
