during our investigations of the treatment of horses, cows, sheep and other innocent animals at auctions & feedlots across the US on a regular basis.
A truck driver at a Texas kill pen, beating an emaciated mare to force her into the trailer, repeatedly striking her sensitive, exposed spinal cord ... a worker at a California auction, repeatedly and brutally goading a downer cow with a cattle prod to make her get up, and when unsuccessful, simply shooting her point blank in the head ... and New Holland Sales Barn (Pennsylvania) employees tossing a gravely injured sheep onto a pile of dead animals, inflicting upon her a slow, painful death ...
I couldn't look away ... knowing justice depended on the evidence I was collecting.

And it made me ANGRY that auction owners tolerate and even promote torture of helpless beings. Furious that local officials often look the other way! And livid that serial wrongdoers can get a slap on the wrist ... promise to reform their practices ... and then resume their heartless abuse of defenseless animals - when they think no one is looking!
