Montgomery County’s eighth annual GreenFest is back this year, taking place in two different locations, ‘GreenFest in the Gardens’ will take place at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on Saturday, April 22. ‘GreenFest in the City’ will happen at Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Downtown Wheaton on Sunday, April 23. Community invited to workshops for University Boulevard Corridor Plan |
WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is inviting the community to attend a series of workshops for the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (UBC Plan). The meetings will be held in a workshop format and will feature staff presentations on existing conditions followed by facilitated discussions on topics such as housing, land use, transportation, parks and open spaces, and neighborhood aspirations for the plan area.
The workshops comprise of two in-person meetings and two virtual meetings for two different geographic areas along the University Boulevard Corridor plan area to allow a more focused conversation on specific parts of the plan area.

The Women's Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor (DOL, or the Department, or we), announces the availability of approximately $5,000,000 in grant funds authorized by the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (“WANTO”) Act of 1992, Pub. L. 102-530, 29 U.S.C. 2501 et seq.; 29 U.S.C. § 13; and the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 for the WANTO Technical Assistance Grant Program.
This program aims to provide technical assistance (TA) to employers (which may include public sector entities) and labor unions in the United States and its territories to encourage employment of women in both apprenticeable occupations and nontraditional occupations (A/NTO), specifically in the following ways:
• Developing (establishing, expanding, and/or enhancing) pre-apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship, Registered Apprenticeship (as defined in Appendix B "Acronyms and Definitions"), or other nontraditional skills training programs designed to prepare women for careers in A/NTO;
• Providing ongoing orientations or other resources for employers, unions, and workers on creating a successful environment for women in A/NTO; and/or
• Setting up support groups, facilitating networks, and/or providing supportive services (as defined in section IV.E.3) for women in A/NTO to improve their retention.

The Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center is seeking a part-time (20-hour week) Program Manager I to manage the Immigrant Resource Centers in East County and White Oak; provide program development, manage the basic computer literacy program and serve as a subject matter expert in the field of workforce management.
What you will be doing:
- The Center operates in three regions of the County: Wheaton, Gaithersburg, and East County. The selected applicant for this position will work primarily at the Gilchrist Center’s East County site
- Manage the operations of the Gilchrist Center in the East County region, ensuring that programs and services are meeting the needs of the clients
- Provide supervision to part-time hourly and merit staff, contractors and/or volunteers
- Implement and promote programs and services offered in the assigned region, including outreach, communications and partnership development
- Manage and develop basic computer literacy programs for all Gilchrist Center locations, including recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to teach classes, conducting needs assessments, assessing the effectiveness of the program, adjusting class offerings as appropriate, managing registration and related databases, and revising/developing teaching materials
- As a subject matter expert on workforce development, you will research current trends, attend and/or convene meetings, represent the Office of Community Partnerships/Gilchrist Center, and advocate for client needs and priorities related to workforce development
- As a core member of the Gilchrist Immigrant Resource Center management team, you will jointly manage the operations and programs to maintain consistency and quality of services
