As we move into the holiday season, it is often a time of thanks and joy, but for so many, the holidays are the most difficult. To bring awareness to this often-overlooked aspect of the season, we pose this question, “Does advocacy have a place at your holiday table”?

Your support allows us to continue to provide on-site crisis intervention services to victims of crime and trauma, 24/7/365. It allows us to provide court advocacy to victims navigating the court system, so they are not alone. It allows us to provide best practice and trauma informed trainings to allied professionals throughout our region to help them better serve our community.

The growth of our programs and the need to assist more victims is evident. The improved accessibility to our centralized location has increased the demand for our services. The needs of the community are huge. Victim Assistance Program must continue to grow our capacity in order to provide our crisis intervention, advocacy and education services to those who need it. And there is no shortage of those who need us. Last year our programs served 6,329 victims.

2019 Angel Tree Ceremony
Victim Assistance Program will hold their Annual Angel Tree Ceremony on Monday, December 2nd from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Community members, friends, and family members of homicide victims are invited to come to this heartwarming, encouraging event where they will have the opportunity to remember their loved ones, and place a special angel ornament on a tree for each individual lost to homicide. The Angel Tree Ceremony expects to see over 150 individuals to participate in this year’s event.

Family members and friends of homicide victims are asked to submit a photo of their loved one to display on the Wall of Remembrance. Both the Angel Trees and the Wall of Remembrance will be on display at the Akron-Summit County Public Library during the month of December.

Survivors may donate a picture (5x7) of their loved one by calling Victim Assistance Program at 330-376-7022.
