SIV Bunco Night at Vega's a Big Hit!
SIV members and their guests gathered together on October 26 at Vega Sankur's lovely home and let the good times roll! There were munchies to eat, wine that was flowing, friends laughing and dice rolling. In the end there were winners and losers, some prizes for both and we were all a little sad it was time to go home.
The good news is that if you missed this bunco mixer we will be planning another one very soon.

SIV Members Participate in the Stop Human Trafficking Fundraiser at the Painted Cabernet
SIV members Cindy Daly and Trevor Summerlin represented the Ventura Soroptimist at the Stop Human Trafficking and Sexual Slavery Event Fundraiser on November 1 at The Painted Cabernet in Oxnard. Soroptimist members and their guests created beautiful floral works of art at this creative fundraiser.

Please save the date, March 8, 2018, for the 11th Annual STOP Human Trafficking & Sexual Slavery Community Walk and Panel Discussion at the Ventura County Museum. Stay tuned for more information on this important event hosted by the Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, The Conejo, Santa Barbara and Simi Valley Soroptimist clubs. The event is designed to help raise awareness about a rapidly growing problem in Ventura County, the state of California, our country and throughout the world. Anyone can be trafficked regardless of race, class, education, gender, age, or citizenship when forcefully coerced or enticed by false promises. We are working on education, advocacy and involvement.

It's hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us.  During this season, we take time to reflect upon the good things that we have and we count our blessings and give thanks.  We seek opportunities to spend time with family and friends, attend parties and spread good cheer.

I am truly grateful to be a part of such a warm and generous group of women and I express my heartwarming thanks to you all for the hope, peace and joy that you bring to my life.

I hope that you all have a beautiful Thanksgiving.

November 25 is International
Day for the Elimination
of Violence Against Women
Women's activists have marked Nov. 25 as a day against violence since 1981. On Dec. 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated Nov.   25  as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women ( Resolution 54/134). The UN invited governments, international organiza-tions and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on this day as an international observance. Women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence, and the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
