Richards Story:
When Richard enrolled in the Arc Educates Entry-Level Culinary Arts Certificate program, people could see the drive and determination in his eyes. Many people say they want to work, but it was clear that Richard meant it. By the time Richard graduated from the Culinary Arts program, he had already applied to a number of positions in the culinary world. He was very proactive, and his tenacity kept the Arc Works staff motivated to provide him with job placement assistance.
Richard interviewed for and accepted a position at a small restaurant in our community. He worked at the restaurant for seven months before he and the owner agreed that he was ready to develop his skills in a bigger kitchen. Richard moved on to a larger restaurant as full-time team member and proved himself to be a talented and dedicated food prep worker.
After some time, Richard shared with the Arc Works team that he was ready to learn more. Our Employment Specialist and Richard spoke with his manager about his desire for additional work experience. The manager spoke highly of Richard and put together a training schedule for him to teach him how to prepare special menus. Unfortunately, this was during the time when businesses were first feeling the effects COVID-19 and Richard was soon laid off.
Richard was not going to be deterred. Richard quickly found temporary employment at a local pizza restaurant making and delivering pizzas. After a few months, with the support of the Arc works team, Richard found full-time employment as a cook at a local assisted living facility. Richard is still employed with them and grateful for the opportunity to use his skills to do what he loves!
