One of the number one mistakes Giving Day participants make is not sharing with their supporters that they are participating in the event. Make sure you're not one of them!
While the Community Foundation of the New River Valley broadly promotes this event, do not expect donors to just find your page on givelocalnrv.org and give. You have to ask, or you will not reach your goal.
How to let folks know you're part of the Giving Day
If you haven't told your fellow team members and board members, start there. Then, think about how you currently reach out to supporters, such as via: social media, email newsletters, print mailings, events, signage in your organization's space, etc. Think of how you can share about the event using your existing communication tools, then share away! Be sure to also reach out to past donors, volunteers, event attendees, or any other engaged supporters.
Don't have a lot of existing communications tools already?
That's okay! Start will assembling an email list and use email as your primary tool to communicate.
Tell them now! And keep reminding them.
However you communicate with folks, make sure to let them know as soon as possible that you are participating in this event and how they can specifically help. Then, remind them throughout the month of June that you are participating and how your campaign is going.
