"No matter how you’re going back, CAMBA’s got your back!”--that was the tagline for CAMBA's College Bound school supplies distribution event on September 11th. Many of the program's teens reunited (masked and socially distanced, of course) with Idriss Barnes and Jesica McLaughlin, the directors of the programs, Collegiate Express and Leading to College and picked up much-needed supplies for the upcoming school year. The students also received the highly anticipated, newly designed CAMBA College Bound t-shirt that Idriss and Jesica are wearing. CAMBA's College Bound programs kick off virtually September 29th.
Homebase on the Radio
CAMBA's HomeBase discussed our work in homelessness prevention on the online radio show Caribbean Power Jam during its “Pandemic within a Pandemic” panel discussion on Friday, August 21. Along with its Facebook Live stream, Power Jam attracted more than 250,000 viewers. The panelists discussed COVID-19 updates and resources, and our Grace Ruiz (in photo with host Fitzgerald Giddings) discussed the eviction concerns currently going on and the resources that are available. Grace shared that there is an eviction moratorium in New York until October, contact information for Homebase and how we can help clients, and the importance of reaching out sooner when facing eviction. Grace also appeared again on the program on September 4th.
