Gratitude and thanksgiving abound at St. Andrew's!
A large crowd gathered to celebrate a festive and uplifting In-gathering Sunday this week. Jordan Uomoto, Director of Faith Formation for Children and Youth, preached to us and urged all of us to "not to sit on God's gifts!" We must have listened, because 74 households/individuals have already pledged $250,554.00 to support our ministries for the coming year. Thank you to those of you who have responded so quickly and generously! This faith-filled response comes from about 30% of our active parishioners. We would love to hear from 70% more of you! This initial pledge response is encouraging but still shy of our goal of $425,000.00. Please return your pledge cards in the next few weeks so we can craft a realistic budget for 2018. Thank you!
Advent, Christmas and Epiphany at St. Andrews
St. Andrew's is a super-active place during the holiday season! We have planned spiritual and outreach opportunities for all during the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany cycle. A booklet will be sent to every home in the coming days. Please review it carefully and plan your family holidays at St. Andrew's.

Did you know that our parish sells gift cards that return a rebate to our church? It's a simple way to turn your everyday expenses into everyday earnings for St. Andrew's Church! We sell gift cards at coffee hour after
Sunday services. You can use them for your own spending or purchase them as Christmas gifts! Please see Ruby after the
8:00 a.m. service or Alyson Stage after the
10:00 a.m. service
on Sunday to purchase your cards. There is a good supply of local grocery stores, gas stations, department stores and restaurants. You can also order cards from hotel chains, Disney, Alaska and Southwest airlines for larger purchases. Please keep your parish in mind when planning your holiday gift-giving and BUY SCRIP!

Advent, Christmas and Epiphany at St. Andrew's

 The holiday season is upon us which means a bevy of activity at St. Andrew's. Below is a sampling of activities, services and outreach that should help you to plan your time, talent and gifts accordingly.
Advent Giving Tree
Our annual Giving Tree will be located in the Narthex this coming Sunday November 26. You are invited to stop by and select a gift card for children at Mary's Place or Full Life Center an adult day care center. Be sure to follow the instructions for wrapping and return date for gifts.
Holiday Tea On Thursday December 7th you are invited to a complimentary Holiday Tea at St. Andrew's between the hours of 10 am and 11:30 am in the church library. A delightful interlude in the busy holiday season to enjoy a cup of tea served with sweets and savories - enjoy great conversation - meet new friends. All are Welcome!
A Service of Lessons & Carols The vocal and bell choirs at St. Andrew's will present an Advent Service of Lessons & Carols on Sunday, December 10 at the 10:00 a.m. service. This service, combines traditional Advent Carols with readings and reflections appropriate to the season.
Christmas Caroling at St. Andrew's
Join us for one of the most fun holiday traditions going! We will gather at St. Andrew's on Saturday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. for an old fashioned walk around the neighborhood while we serenade our neighbors with Christmas Carols and bring holiday cheer. El Centro de la Raza, the Center for People of All Races, is a non-profit located in Beacon Hill that provides services in a culturally competent manner to Latino and other low-income families and individuals of all ages, so that they may develop self-sustainability and may more fully participate in society. Enjoy café (coffee generously donated by Starbucks), pan dulce and a tour of our building and programs. See what El Centro is doing to build a "Beloved Community" and how you can help.

Sassy & Soulful Gratitude
Tremendous gratitude to all who helped to make The Center's annual fundraiser "Sass & Soul at The Center" such a joyful success this year. Singers Frank Anderson and LaVon Hardison, along with their spirited back-up musicians, gave us our theme and our joie de vivre; Mark Chubb and Alice Ann Wetzel provided soul food to go with the music; our faithful wine stewards Bill Yunker and Mike Hicks tended bar; Doug and Alice Speers set the tables; Mari Heminway made lovely flower arrangements; Meredith Easton Brown helped with details and managed the servers; Carol Johnson cheerfully floated wherever she was needed; Lisa Martin and Pamella Hicks for checking people in; Jeanette Silva, Robert Bogataj, Rachel Herbert, Nelda Danz for rushing in where angels fear to tread and heading the clean-up crew in JB's absence; Chuck Perov, Evy Morris, and Mary and Doug MacMillan for rolling their sleeves up with Nelda; Dave Weigand for coming to the rescue when the little dishwasher flooded the kitchen (right when Frank and LaVon were singing "Wade in the Water!") and Margo Rogers for administrative support. The evening would not have been a success without you - thanks so much.
Fall Sunday Forum
November 26, 2017 (Sharon Wilson and JB Hoover):
Protecting Our Climate System: How's it going? What can I do? St. Andrew's parishioners JB Hoover and Sharon Wilson will bring us up-to-date on climate science, effects of altered climate and recommended actions - all based on recent training with the Climate Reality Project. This is God's creation and people that are suffering. We are all called to respond.
Advent Journey at The Center
 A Seasonal Quiet Morning - First Step on the Advent Journey
Saturday, December 2, 2017, 9:00am-12:30pm, Parish Hall
. This seasonal time of retreat offers morning prayer, centering prayer, walking meditation and unstructured time for reflection held in shared silence. You are welcome to bring a breakfast treat to share, your journal, a prayer shawl, a yoga mat, or whatever else would facilitate your retreat. Please join us for this first step in Advent to set the tone for the season and the pace for the journey. Advance registration is appreciated. Rest on the Journey: Centering Prayer Advent Special
Wednesdays, Dec. 6, 13, and 20, 5:45-7pm, Chapel of the Resurrection.
Come to the Chapel in candlelight and the hush of resting and waiting for one 30-minute period of Centering Prayer followed lectio divina in the monastic style on the themes of Advent from scripture and other writings. We will conclude the evening with some brief sharing. Please note that there will be no centering prayer gatherings Wednesdays, November 22, December 27, or January 3. Advent Journey with Music and Labyrinth
Saturday, December 16, 2017, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, Library.
Mary and Joseph left everyone and everything familiar behind to journey to an unknown destination in order to bring The Light into the world. In this beautiful season of Advent, their journey may remind us of our own journey and inspire us to find and give birth to The Light within ourselves, and to take that light into the world. Music-chanting and listening-as well as journaling and walking the Labyrinth in St. Andrew's Sacred Grounds will guide us to focus on what is truly important and to receive a respite from the rushed and hectic pace as Christmas rapidly approaches.

 Director's Corner
This past week we had our In-Gathering Sunday, when we collected pledges for our Discipleship program. Part of discipleship, part of following Jesus, is that we are invited to give of our time, talent, and treasure for God's kingdom. This is something that the entire community is doing. As I recently reminded families, that includes our children and youth. They are full members of this parish. Making pledges and talking about the stewardship of our lives is an opportunity to teach and include our kids.
So as we ask ourselves what we would like to offer to God this year, let's remember to ask our children. This might mean pledging to join the choir, to acolyte, to come to Children's Church or Youth Group a certain amount per month, to help out during the Jubilee Dinner, to help teach younger kids, to give a portion of their allowance, to bake communion bread once a month, or any number of things. Let's invite our children to be exactly what they are: members of Christ's Body.

Thanks to everyone who ordered a wreath or purchased a Chinook Book! We've ended the wreath sales but we'll continue to sell Chinook phone apps. You can continue to purchase and refill your Chinook coupons on the St Andrew's website (under the "Youth Programs" tab under Children & Youth), or you can go to this site with your phone:

. Those proceeds will continue to support our youth programming. Once we've tallied up the wreath and Chinook sales we'll give you an update of how much we made for the Youth Group. Thanks for supporting our youth!!
Christmas Pageant (December 17, 10:00 a.m.) Join us for our annual Christmas Pageant on Dec 17th during the 10am service! Our children and youth will help lead us in celebrating the birth of our Lord with song, word, and play. Sign-up in the Parish Hall or email Elizabeth (elizabeth.darlington@gmail.com). Music will be practiced during Children's Church the Sundays prior, and there will be two dress rehearsals on Dec 3rd and 10th after the 10am with food provided. We'd love for you children and youth to participate! Whether that's as a donkey, shepherd, star, Magi, reader, props person or something else!
Progressive Dinners (December 18, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.)
What's better than appetizers, dinner, and dessert? Appetizers, dinner, and dessert at three locations! That's exactly what our Progressive Dinners are. They're our MS and HS Youth Groups' Christmas parties, which include food, games, and a while elephant gift exchange ($10 limit, but preferably something you don't want from your home). Both youth groups will gather at St Andrew's for appetizers and then split up and head to different homes for dinner, dessert, and the gift exchange. It's also an occasion when youth group graduates are welcomed back to join in the high school festivities. We'd love to see you there! And let me know if you'd be willing to be a driver. Thanks to these families who have volunteered their homes:

Middle School Retreat (January 12-14, 2018)
This is the highlight of the year for our Middle Schoolers! Every year our Middle School Youth Group joins with other Episcopal Churches from around Seattle and the Eastside for this retreat. I can't recommend it enough! We go to Miracle Ranch where there is horseback riding, paintball, a ropes course, great food, great games and more. The youth ministers who lead the weekend do an amazing job of planning the programming, the discussions, and all the details. If you could only go to one event out of the whole year I'd recommend that you make space for this one. More details and the registration form are forthcoming, but until then, put this weekend in your calendar.
Parish Camp (April 28-29, 2018) We're excited to announce that we're doing Parish Camp this coming Spring! It's a weekend at Camp Huston for camping, games, music, time with other parishioners, and more. Stay tuned for more details and mark your calendars!
Next Youth Group
Our next youth group meeting is scheduled for December 3rd. We'll continue our series on Testimony and Christian Story. Bring your youth pledge card if you filled one out. We'd like to take more photos of you all for our wall, so be prepared to have your picture taken!

Ways to get involved at St. Andrew's
Join the Handbell Choir! The church is looking for people to join the handbell choir - no experience necessary!
It's easy and fun - if you haven't done it before, we will teach you! Rehearsals are Thursday evenings at 6:15 p.m. with plans to play on many Sunday at the 10:00 a.m. service. Please contact Music Director Tim Drewes for more information,

Jubilee Dinner: Our next monthly Jubilee outreach meal will be held on Sunday November 26 at 2 pm in the Parish Hall. If you would like to help with this meal, just check in at the kitchen on that Sunday.
Showcase
Showcase is located next to the nursery in the Parish Hall and is open most Sunday mornings during the program year, selling many treasurers at bargain prices. All proceeds go to the general budget of St. Andrew's.
Matthew 25 Ministries
Bring your empty prescription bottles to the Welcome Table and place them in the container marked Matthew 25. These bottles are scrubbed and sent away to be filled with medical needs of people living in third world countries. Family Works Food Bank
Many thanks to everyone who so generously supports the Family Works Food Bank throughout the year. During the month of November and December we will be asking for items to fill the tables of those in need with typical foods you might find on your own holiday tables, including canned vegetables and fruits, potatoes, cranberries, olives, pickles, and stuffing mixes.
Host Coffee Hour
We are still looking for coffee hosts for our December and January coffee hours following the 10:00 a.m. service. Just bring a few treats, put on your best smile and meet new people as you pour their beverages. Creation Keepers will supply the clean-up help if you use the ceramic cups. Sign-up sheets can be found at the Welcome Table on Sunday mornings. Thank you to all for being so willing to serve in this ministry of hospitality!
2018 Flower and Sanctuary Candle Charts
Flower and sanctuary candle charts are now out for the 2018. Sunday flowers are $50.00 and the candle is $5.00. This is a nice way to support the beauty of the church while remembering loved ones and celebrating special occasions.
